You can still apply but they'll impute a certain amount of rent to you and adjust your payment accordingly. I'm not sure off the top of my head if you can get around that by paying rent to your parents or not or how that works. Basically, if you're applying for SSI or SSDI, GET PROFESSIONAL HELP.
For SSI it's either paying a competitive rent for your area (like if renting one room with board is $700 that's what you need to be paying) or "your share" of the household expenses. Add up Property tax/rent, gas, food, garbage pick up, electricity, water and some others I'm probably forgetting then divide by the number of adults in the house. If you're not paying one of those you get a one-third reduction no matter how little help you're getting.
