RWBY isn't a very good show and from the like 4 episodes I watched, the thing I liked the most was yellow girl's shotgun knuckles. It just feels like Monty's animation program is horribly outdated and while it works well when people fight, it just looks weird when they talk with each other or just interact at all. Also I don't like that any character that isn't important is just a shade, it looks really, really stupid and I hope Monty put in more effort than that in later episodes.

That's because the animation program they use is Poser, which is not intended to be used for that. It's mainly for modeling, storyboarding and the like! I unironically enjoy this show and look forward to every thursday. If this means I have poo poo taste, so be it. Pretty glad they didn't go all in on prom shenanigans. I went into the most recent episode expecting rooster teeth to take the low hanging fruit but instead I got yang/ruby backstory and a well scripted conversation between yang and blake.

Also for this. Granted I really should have seen it coming... and what is going on with his forearms? And team JNPR takes the win at halftime (definitely needs a gif). So RWBY knocks off para (was that para...para?) from their lengthy anime inspiration list. At some point I expect them to start collecting and training rare Grimm beasts to fight in their tournament and reveal that Nora is Ren's cousin or sister-not-related-by-blood. I was in that podcast too! And I made the Yang running gif. But yeah, Monty is someone who got very very good at doing one thing, and was then asked to do many other things that he wasn't trained for. I think he did eventually upgrade his animation tech, since the show is basically sponsored by the newest copy of Poser, but his reluctance to update made it seem like he was afraid of being exposed as a one trick pony. He is also a 30 year old high school drop out who regularly wears anime wigs and plays DDR religiously but that probably has nothing to do with RWBY. For what it's worth, I think the beginning of season 2 was a step in the right direction, but it's still a long way behind being the show that people believe it to be. And as a reminder, this just won 2 awards at the Streamy's, beating Pendleton Ward's Bravest Warriors for Best Animated Show, and winning Best Original Score.

From what I remember when I used to follow roosterteeth, Monty has some kind of OCD about efficiency. Something about upgrading will add an extra process that will slow him down or some poo poo.

RWBY is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's certainly not 'good' by any standard, but I like the ambition Monty has and for the budget he has to work with I think it's a pretty decent effort. It's certainly no worse than 90% of the shonen-schlock and moe-blobs that pervade anime at the moment and considering we are 6100 posts into the 17th Naruto thread lets not pretend anyone around here actually has good taste.
