I checked out some more in case I was being stupid but nope I still don't like it, and I typed up some words but the hell with it I stick by my original verdict; it's cargo-cult anime that took a bunch of stuff they saw in other media and tried to assemble it like some sort of TvTropes monstrosity. The fights are nice and have one-up on stuff like the Star Wars prequels in that at least all the attacks look like they're intended to do damage while they twirl around.
