Worth noting as well that the TUF 19 premiere was preceded by a full fight night card, albeit not a terribly interesting one (TUF Canada/Australia finals with Bisping/Kennedy headlining). That probably boosted its ratings a bit.

Nonetheless I wonder if this season ends up being TUF's swan song, at least the North American one. Ratings aren't great, they haven't announced another season yet, and I wonder if the concept of the show is a bit past its prime now that they're bringing in so many new fighters anyways these days with all the shows they're running. Also 20 is a nice number to end on :D

FWIW, Ronda is backing Rose to win it all:

quote:

"I definitely think it’s Rose Namajunas. I called it from the very beginning. As soon as I saw her, I said this girl is special. I've been following her for two years. I wish her all the best, and I can't wait to see how she does in the season."

"She’s bound to be successful. She's got an amazing skill set. She’s an exciting fighter. She takes risks. She’s gorgeous. And she’s charismatic. I really think she has all the tools that are needed in order to be the next really influential champion."

Kinda too bad that everyone seems to bagging on Lisa, obviously she didn't look great but I think the whole "quit mentally" thing is being overblown. It just looked to me that she had the same problem she did last time, her positional awareness just isn't very good so she's constantly getting swept and reversed.

Yeah it had to have been Tecia coming back in, she had the closest loss and obviously was the biggest name to be eliminated at that point as well. Also if she slotted in directly for Kish then she would have fought Bec in the first round for a spot against Carla in the second round, unless they reseeded or something to avoid giving Carla a tough matchup. It would be interesting if the two of them did end up fighting on the show considering the online bickering they were doing a week or two ago.

Carla as well, her path to the belt possibly goes Torres-Penne-Calderwood now. Small wonder she wasn't thrilled about it.

Also maybe things have changed in the last few years but is Daly really all that good? I remember seeing her get absolutely handled by Lisa Ellis in Bellator a few years ago. Was kind of surprised to see her ranked #5.

Both Clark and Ellis believe that The Skrapettes have also gotten to the coaches on Team Melendez, resulting in preferential treatment.

“We got a little bit different coaching experience than the other girls because we weren’t part of The Scrapettes,” Clark explained. “With their sexuality they were able to -- not so much with Gilbert -- but with some of the other coaches they really pulled them in and put them against us a little bit.”

But yeah basically it seems like Team Melendez got really cliquey with Magana/Bec/Rose/Hill/Kagan on one side and Clark, Ellis and Torres being left out.

Yeah but then when someone goes down with an injury (e.g. Justine Kish) there's someone around who's still in fight shape who they can put right in.

In the earlier seasons people did get kicked out of the house after losing, but I think around Season 3 or so they realized it was useful to have the other fighters around in case of injury.

ahaha that was the best possible ending. It took me a sec to even register that Felice was tapping and realize what was going on. I was pretty optimistic going into the fight though given that fairly neutral people like Aisling and Joanne were like "oh yeah, Randa is way better than her" while Carla and Penne were the only ones pumping Felice's tires.

It would be kind of cool if Carla and Jessica both lose their quarterfinal matchups too though I dunno if that's likely.

Yeah she basically said that she was happy with how they were training before and didn't think they needed to change anything. But I guess she didn't vote and her side "lost" so she was supposed to sit at home for most of the day instead of training, or something.

Also Angela Magana's twitter is a total train wreck, good lord. This is coming from an interview with Duke Roufus about the recent allegations about his club, so take it with a huge grain of salt, but:

quote:

He said that the now-departed Namajunas, his most vocal critic in the wake of the Journal-Sentinal story, perpetrated at least one act of violence during a training session that left a teammate injured.

“The last day she was there, she was sparring one of our male teammates, and I hear this scream, and there’s a little area of our mat that kind of turns, and I couldn’t see,” he said. “It was the last round of sparring MMA with big gloves. I hear this scream, and I’m like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s something between them.’ And the last day of practice, she leaves. I found out from this guy, who has a sister who’s a pro fighter on our team, so he knows how to train with women. He grew up wrestling with her, (from) a prevalent wrestling family. (Rose) slid off her gloves and started punching him in the face with her hand wraps and cut him without gloves on.”

Namajunas did not respond to a text message requesting comment about the alleged incident.

I'm not sure that there are any spoilers there... she mentions Rose     winning all of her fights, but I don't think that includes the semifinals since she was interviewing her before that.

This was my favourite part:

quote:

This is not to say the Chumpettes and the Nerds didn’t have a sense of their regard. They did. One night, “Hurricane” Heather Jo Clark had lectured the other women in the house on bullying. “I brought up how I would really like to start an anti-bullying campaign and explained what bullying was. A friend of mine has a 13-year-old daughter that committed suicide… She hung herself and she was just being bullied. That happens every day with kids, with adults in the workplace, and it was going on here this whole time.” They listened to her, and then, minutes later, started making fun of her for making her speech. “So they started bullying me about anti-bullying. How funny is that though, right?”
I can only imagine how awkward that whole situation must have been.

It seems to me that there was a ton of drama that got left on the cutting room floor. Apparently Lisa Ellis and Felice hate each other but I don't remember ever even seeing them interact on the show.
