He doesn't have all the answers, he's openly vulnerable at times, and he's not the snarky jackass that the female lead falls in love with while shaking her finger at him and going "Oh, you." Take away the immortal bit, and he'd probably be just as refreshing in this genre.

I only now just watched the finale. Goddamn, that was pretty stone cold. What a grim fate for Adam, even if it was deserved. Simultaneously learning it won't be renewed was
