Dr.Smasher posted:I just hope there aren't terrible raid bosses. I feel like we'll be alright. I keep hearing that TPS is going to be using a linear progression model (versus Borderlands 2's insane exponential one) that should keep the insane sponginess down. Plus, between BL1 and BL2, I've never really felt like I was obligated to fight any "raid" boss if I didn't want to, so the track record there is promising.

I have no problem with swapping out a weapon for a better one, I do have a problem with literally not being able to find a upgrade which is what happened a *lot* to me in BL2. So much that I felt compelled to run gibbed's editor to scale up my weapons and equipment. Yeah, I'm lucky to get a good 2 or 3 levels out of a weapon in UVHM. That being said, I probably end up using that weapon more in those 2-3 levels than the typical weapon in 4-6 levels of Normal or TVHM. If I'm level 61 or 62 when I realize that this shotgun or rifle (that's still performing) is Level 57 or 58, I feel an immediate urge to memorialize the weapon in that character's vault. That's where all of the memorable workhorse items go.

Otherwise, NA purchasers may want to look in the SA Mart for codes that came bundled with Nvidia GPU packages. I got my copy of TPS for $40 (and that's about the going rate) off of somebody who bought a new GPU but didn't want the game, which is a nice 33% discount I (unfortunately) couldn't find anywhere else. I don't believe it counts as a legitimate pre-order, so you won't get the incentive that full-fledged pre-orders get, but it sounds like another Creature Dome, which is basically junk you'll be able to buy for pennies in a Steam sale.

I played a ton of BL2 and, during that time, I've probably funneled hundreds (especially because of how absurd the price-per-pull gets at higher levels) of millions of dollars into the slot machines at Moxxi's bar. However, not once did I ever get a triple-Vault symbol grand prize. I never got a triple-Bell cash grand prize either, come to think of it. Plenty of Marcus purples, Eridium jackpots, etc., though. Then I go to Moxxi's bar in TPS and literally the first thing that happens when I play the slots for the first time ever on my first character is a triple-vault jackpot: And a bunch of moonstone on the other machine at the same time. I am vindicated. EDIT: Side note, how exactly do shift keys work in this game? There is a loot chest and a Shift machine. It looks like you can enter codes to earn keys, but then you have to actually redeem the keys to use them with a particular character? They don't just magically get added to a common pool that is shared between an account's characters? Does this mean that I should only redeem the keys if I am certain I want to use them with a particular character? Cream-of-Plenty fucked around with this message at 20:18 on Oct 14, 2014 |

You know, I was a little disappointed when I first discovered that relics were removed from the game...but the more I see of these Oz kits, the more I actually think the kits are a significant improvement over the relics and a decent replacement. Most ordinary relics gave a single bonus (or maybe two bonuses, excluding the stockpile ammo relics) but even really basic Oz kits do 2-4 different things that can really mix things up. My experience with relics was generally carrying 1-3 of them, including 1 that decreased cooldown and 1 that buffed whatever damage I preferred to do, and then just incrimentally swapping them out with superior versions as the game progressed. Oz kits actually make me think about what I want to do.

Summons Butt Stallion to trample a target Calls in Hyperion satellite orbital strike Splits into a second Jack Double, a la cytokinesis, who then does all of the fighting etc. When Jack dies, he doesn't get resurrected at the Hyperion New U terminals, a paler version just crawls out of his corpse and continues the fight.

Dalael posted:Holy crap... You know, I think it's generally a fun Borderlands game, it's just that it's marred by a series of less-than-ideal qualities and decisions. For example, I may sound crazy, but I think the fact that every single environment is either a moody, atmosphere-less moonscape or the dim innards of ship/space station sort of creates this perpetually depressed, uncomfortable feeling. Add to that a bunch of characters who are generally unfunny/charmless and you've got a really off-putting game. It's like a bad dream or something. At least with BL1 and BL2 you had sunny deserts and bright locales that helped contrast the oppressive, airless voids, and the occasional NPC who injected some sort of positive energy into things. The Pre-Sequel is like...Courage, the Cowardly Dog: It's just dark and weird and it feels like everybody is a shell of a person. Scooter and his sister were a thousand times better than Janey Springs; Roland practically sucked your dick with words of encouragement in BL2, but he's like some kind of alien in TPS. I hate it. Most of the gameplay mechanics are pretty much identical to BL2, however, with the addition of new options like laser guns, the Grinder, butt-slammin', player characters with actual personality, etc. So on a mechanical level, if you liked BL2, then TPS should be enjoyable enough. A little late on the "freezing enemies feels so good" train but it's seriously awesome (and never gets old) when you freeze an opponent mid-air and they just drift into something before shattering...like a peaceful comet.
