New Bobbins started off as a joke of sorts; Allison once had the idea of making some new strips set in the Old Bobbins era of the late '90s/early aughts. He quickly dropped the idea, but kept the Bobbins name to focus on characters that had fallen out of focus. If you haven't read Scary Go Round, that may cut into your ability to understand New Bobbins strips since most of the cast members are legacy characters. Into the Woods was a pure New Bobbins storyline that was pretty well-received.

see, e.g., Benny Marks the bully (ratted out by a girl even higher on the schoolground hierarchy), Onion Lem (roasted by a spaceship when he tries to stay where he doesn't belong), Sasha the murderous selkie (however much it sucks to be married off as a kid and to lose your heritage forever - lured into a trap and sent to prison for attempted murder), Camille of the six nipples (scheme leveraging her recovered popularity succeeds at great effort, but is immediately made socially irrelevant again through an unexpected interference that wasn't even aimed at her)
