If you want unconditional removal it costs 3 color-intensive mana now, and that's a huge difference from 1B. That and Supreme Verdict obviously. Bumping up how much 1-for-1 removal and board wipes cost by 1 mana makes a ton of difference to how the first 5 turns plays out in any given matchup. It's no Doom Blade but there is Murderous Cut.
