Welp, my boss is loading a shotgun with pink slips. My job is fairly safe atm, but the people he's fired were all in fairly critical positions that he hasn't made any arrangements to fill and that's going to make this job suck. I've thinking about printing some resumes anyway, I guess this is as good an excuse as any.

Tire guys where i used to work don't get sick days unless it's not busy. And even then you still come in every morning, and just hope you get sent home after your first fleet check. But when it's just you, your service truck and some trailers the risk of getting someone else sick is pretty low.
Either way I'm glad to be out of there and In a place where I can just call in for whatever reason.

But yeah that's some serious poo poo he's got, there's no way it's ebola but it's not a normal flu either, I doubt we'll hear from him for a few days. I hope he's ok :(

Time for a rant.

My sister has an Aussie spec (cause thats where I live) 2003 Kia Sportage, apparently after she got her stereo replaced her car power radio antenna stopped going up and down as needed so she asked me to have a look.

Now the problem is that she is as messy as hell and it doesn't help he has a small child (yay my cousin!) so the inside was a MESS, this in turn triggered a cleaning conniption which resulted in me taking out the front seats and vacuuming the hell out of the thing and cleaning/vacuuming/using car shampoo in a spray can to clean the hell out of the cars interior. I also ended up having to take out the center console parts and soaking them in a sink to get all the crap off them, and while this was happening I re-did the stereos wiring loom which was just bare conductors twisted together with a bit of tape and soldering/taping them together properly.

After all this I had a look at the head unit and found no electric antenna trigger wire on the unit however I did find an amp trigger wire so I decided to use this, however I could not find anything to connect it to even after tracing the aerial cord. It was definitely an power antenna which in turn was said to have gone up and down as required when the old head unit was installed but I could not find a way to trigger it, plus taking the top bolt off the antenna and yanking on it to get it out did not work either as it was held fast.

So in the end I put it all back together and was left with a car with a much cleaner interior, a car radio wiring harness that will hopefully not catch on fire, and still non functional power antenna. Now I don't consider it a waist of a day however it has been very frustrating, plus when you consider that there is gently caress ALL information about how the power antenna on this make and model of car is triggered, not to mention a loving wiring diagram for the thing. My only option I can see is getting to the power antenna itself which lives behind the front right wing but that will involve removing part of the trim to get at the inner mudguard so I can remove it and get at the antenna unit. I was going to take the wheel off for easier access but the wheel lugs were torqued to hell making it impossible to get off, so if my sister found herself on the side of the road with a flat tire she would of been in trouble.

So much word salad I hope that made sense.

Anyway I find AI being my only hope, can one of you be my Obi Wan Kenobi and give me an idea of how the hell the power antenna in this thing is triggered? Or where I can find somewhere on the wiring loom to trigger it before I go mad?

Have you tried Kiatechinfo.com?

So where do you guys buy your used laptops? I'd like a personal laptop (maybe an X61 with one of the higher-resolution screens?) and my wife needs something too (T-series?).

There's a small chain of shops in town that buys factory refurbs and old corporate laptops on wholesale and resells them retail. They're kind of skeezy in that they love to sell warranty and financing options but if you opt out of all that it's a great place. They've always got a few 2 or 3 year old Toshiba or Lenovo business class laptops around in good shape as well as some of the more interesting consumer level poo poo. I imagine there's a bunch of places like that in different cities.

My bedroom netflix/music/porn device is an M11X R1, the one that was most famous for hinge/lid separation and had a lid replacement program which I couldn't take advantage of because... well because Dell Support. Yeah the lid is held on with JB Weld.
My T500 is actually slight a step back from the alien in hardware spec for everything but screen size and RAM (and only because I swapped the AW's RAM into the Lenovo) but it's so worth it for the build quality.

We may have inadvertently DDOS'd these guys. The link worked a couple hours ago.
It's bushings and/or airbags damping the link between a trailer and a truck, applied to the truck side, so both the 'why didn't I think of that?' and the 'tweekers gonna steal it' thoughts apply. No-slack pintle hitches kind of addressed this issue but pintle hitches are kind of a medium duty thing and these guys have solutions for every hitch style that can be applied to a pickup truck.

Heh, I just found out my Vibe is affected by both the 'airbags randomly deploy for no reason' recall as well as the now-infamous 'airbags will kill your rear end when they deploy' recall. I thought it was only the former. Guess I ought to get my rear end to a stealership, my fatal attraction to vehicles that actively try to kill me only applies to my projects, I'd rather my boring DD wasn't also homicidal.
