I was at the packers game. Dix and shields looked really good. Run defense seemed to always know a din was coming. The offense eviscerated the vikings defense. Lacy did great. Wide receivers were consistently open. On the long nelson td,
Cobb looked open also.

But for serious that was bad, Ponder looked like the same old Ponder, GB was only slowed by its own playcalling and the occasional slip on the field.

Are teams going to learn from guys like Ponder, EJ, Locker, and Gabbert that maybe it isn't a good idea to take a QB who didn't even dominate college competition with your first pick probably isn't the best idea? In fairness, it hasn't happened since EJ, but there were a few years there that total bums were going in the first round because teams were so obsessed with finding their FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK.

Not really. The teams that do hit the jackpot and get a franchise QB are starting miles ahead of other teams on the field, because it's a pass-happy league now. RBs aren't going in the first or even second round these days. If you have a team that desperately needs a QB, I think you have to roll the dice.

Where I think they gently caress up is throwing them to the wolves right away, because usually it's a coach/GM with a short leash and shorter job prospect. Some of those guys probably would have been quality starter material with a year or two on the bench just learning/practicing.

Locker actually did have a year or two on the bench, and he still sucked. If you want to hope for a Rodgers and draft the Superstar of the Future in the second/third rounds for some bench incubation, that's fine, but blowing picks in the first is probably a bad way to go if it's not a known quantity.

The clear winner here is Teddy Bridgewater, because after that shitshow the Vikings and their fans sure as hell are gonna appreciate having him as their #1 QB

Someone take away Chris Doleman's HoF award, that slacker only got 8 interceptions to his 150.5 sacks. Joey Porter is also in the "Almost there" club with 98 sacks 12 INTs.

There's a bunch of poo poo going on. Teams that do this make tons of bad decisions all over the place. Not only do they start mediocre rookies too soon, but they throw them out with terrible O-lines and crappy run games and then in the postseason they think that the problem was that he lacked "weapons" and draft a WR in the first.

I forgot about Bradford, well played. Still, Ponder is terrible but he's basically what you'd expect out of a third stringer.

I think the point is more that there isn't even 32 great starting QBs in the league, it gets even thinner with backups and by the time you are looking at third stringers, the it's really more a hope and a prayer that the guy is competent if called into action. Combine that with a bad offensive situation for the Vikings (seriously, they've had to dramatically pivot their gameplan pretty much every week), a short practice week, poor field conditions and the fact that we already know that Ponder is terrible and last night isn't very surprising.

And really it's the last bit that just made everything extra awful. Ponder is loving terrible and leaves no room for anyone to think "well, maybe?" when it comes to his play. If he was some unknown scrub, most people would be more forgiving but there is no place for that because Ponder isn't unknown. He is a poo poo QB with a poo poo arm, poo poo pocket presence and poo poo instincts who was bound to play like poo poo no matter what shituation that required he poo poo his way into the game.

Can anyone make a clip of Nantz and Simms fighting about Teddy's pro day and NFL scouting? That was my favorite part of the game last night.
