nomapple posted:LowCityRain is one of the better recent goth bands in my opinion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtguZizrhNk That's pretty good, but I think I'd call it shoegaze more than goth. It's like She Wants Revenge -- a lot of their stuff is some of the gothiest music to come from a not-goth band in the last decade or so. Not that there are many identifiably goth bands left in the world, to be honest.

Just discovered Zora. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pifB7dKZDrA Downtempo dark industrial/ethereal, with just a little bit of a Faith and the Muse feel.

I always thought Inkubus Sukkubus' schtick was more paganism than vampires. Decent music, though, and they were pretty good live.

Listening to them now. It's like the unholy child of post-punk and doom metal. Not bad. On the topic of goth-ish post-punk, the Chameleons ("Vox") are about to tour North America, playing their Script of the Bridge album. I'm seeing them in two weeks. Should be fun. http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2014/12/29/chameleons-script-of-the-bridge-us-tour-dates/

I don't think anyone's mentioned Chelsea Wolfe? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49MYJkEazIg 20 years ago this would probably have been called "ethereal".

Yeah I've been hearing about witch house too. It even has a Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_house_(music_genre) ††† (which you linked to -- yeah there's a tendency for band names with weird Unicode characters in them) is actually a side project of the Deftones' lead singer, and apparently there's some debate as to whether it qualifies as "true" witch house (lol). Then again, people seem to be classifying Zola Jesus and Crystal Castles as being in the genre, so

Earwicker posted:have you guys been in a coma for the last 5 years or something. the whole "what is witch house" freakout was a while ago Something like that. Does a somewhat co-dependent marriage (now ended) count? Earwicker posted:also the correct answer to the question "can X artist be qualified as true genre Y?" is and should always be "who gives a gently caress shut up". Genres are useful terms as general descriptors of an artist to give a general idea of their sound while describing them. but once it gets taken to a level of debating whether any artist "truly belongs" in a genre or not, it's time to stop because that is an entirely pointless ego-driven endeavor about categorism, not music. Well, yeah. Hence "lol". Earwicker posted:also anything involving Chino is usually pretty great Not gonna disagree.

I don't think anyone's mentioned Drab Majesty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xg-W3PVVSaQ Sorta gothy dreampop, a bit like Thalia or Big Electric Cat. I saw them play last weekend and they were really good live, too. E: LabyaMynora posted:Hello dead goth thread. Undead, undead, undead.
