Really surprised nobody's mentioned The Birthday Massacre yet. As far as I'm concerned, they're really the only really good original* 'goth' band to come along so far in the 21st century: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLOfluH8mgQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrmChd_8PfA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBmDgtJyc1U Their sound definitely has a lot of crossover with Industrial Metal in a lot of their songs, but a lot of their songs are sublimely melodic and beautiful too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5E3MlpKqVOk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdYkaaOsgM4 I know a lot of people are into VNV Nation as far as the newer bands go, but they've always come across to me as a (not-quite-as-good-as-the-original) modernized imitation of Depeche Mode - a niche which, for me, has always been filled by the (in my opinion) much better Melotron. *(i.e. not just a tribute band who happens to write new material in the same style as the band they're a tribute to, like the many TSoM-alikes out there)

Stalins Moustache posted:gently caress yeah! I'm a huge fan of the Birthday Massacre. Their new song "Beyond" is beautiful. I can't wait for their new album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3vi2Fsqlpg polpotpotpotpotpot posted:I irrationally love the gently caress out of The Birthday Massacre. TOOT BOOT posted:I'm a big fan of The Birthday Massacre. I mainly stick with classic goth and industrial bands but they're an exception. Oh good, I was fearing the reason they hadn't been mentioned yet was because everyone hated them for some reason and I wasn't aware of it - god knows how fickle goth scenesters can be Literal Carehaver posted:this is incredibly rad, thank you Glad I could introduce someone else to them! sharts posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOPbDEHeisc Thanks for this, have never heard of her before, I'll have to look for more of this. While we're on the topic of bands that may or may not be counted as 'goth' but will likely appeal to a lot of the people who listen to goth anyways, anyone else like Bat For Lashes? She's more folk/alternative, but she's covered both The Cure and Depeche mode and definitely has a lot of the introspective, romantic, dark stylings that are part and parcel of goth rock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Jfxm4ywN4s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yEjT_pIkhU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXK0Ejzin4c Plus her stage name and a few of her songs make references to bats, that's goth, right?

When I was DJing, This Corrosion was a lifesaver when I needed time to run up to the bar to get another drink, or needed to run to the bathroom.
