Crowd crush is a terrible thing and a horrible way to go Never seen one filmed from so many angles either. Disturbing viewing. There are ways to prevent it with policed barriers restricting the amount of people entering the chokepoint, as well as making them entry and exit only so you don't have the opposing crowds snaking through each other. That's what the council and police do in my city during big events. Doesn't seem like they had any crowd control plan for this area at all unfortunately.

Charlz Guybon posted:Looks like the cops are investigating to see if they can identify people on the edges who were pushing and shoving. Guess if this actually happened and they are found they'd be on hook for manslaughter charges or something equivalent? I've never heard of the pushers being prosecuted before. It sounds like the crowd was moving fine before that started happening so maybe there's grounds for manslaughter. The problem with crowd crushes is that the people at the back of the crowd don't realise the people at the front of the crowd are trapped (in this instance the front of the crowd collapsed due to the downward slope of the alley) and dying, so they keep pushing to reach their destination, which just exacerbates the situation. Such a lovely situation.
