They said you have a right to an attorney and that one will be appointed to you. They specifically told you that if you want one, they'll get one for you. Make them do it. It doesn't matter how difficult it is for them, stick to your guns and tell them to pound sand until they do exactly what they said they were going to do. Granted, IANAL, but that seems like the appropriate course of action.
