I'm with you there. Angel Beats is one of my personal favorites and I'm disappointed that it got gimped the way it did. Also it is one of only 2 non lovely shows Seiji Kishi has directed.

Angel Beats over either Humanity Has Declined OR Sunred? :raise:

I watched the first episode of this. While on some level I enjoy seeing how the sausage is made, there's no hook for me personally. The anime they're making looks terrible, and the cast is largely a bunch of dumb wieners, from our otherwise competent donut-obsessed protagonist (BECAUSE LIKING A FOOD IS CHARACTERIZATION, RIGHT???) to lovely loser coworker who lectures others after a catstrophic fuckup of his own.

Man, Taro is a worthless shithead, but somehow seeing the actual flow of events makes me feel less like this mixup is 100% his fault. I mean, MINIMUM 40% HIS FAULT, but all this message relay poo poo and bruised egos...

Then again I haven't hard a job that was very "producing" things before so maybe everyone being cloistered off to avoid proper communication serves some purpose I can't imagine as a sane person

Addendum: If there was any doubt before that the director was supposed to be Mizushima Seiji then his receiving an award for an anime that sounds suspiciously like "Fullmetal Alchemist" in this episode confirms that poo poo

There's a reason they had that Kickstarter for an animators dorm

Exodus seems like a really terrible anime

Shirobako is pretty good though. CG Classmate's conflict of a well paying and secure job VS an interesting one is another good thing to spotlight, and probably the one I've related to the most.

I should assume the answer is no, but I'll ask anyways: is this the first instance of an anime girl being tsundere for car wheels?

Tsundere would imply she later comes around to loving car wheels, as opposed to a burgeoning sense of existential dread at the tedious reality of being stuck working on them for the rest of her foreseeable future.

So there's a bunch more episodes of this left? Is the final third of the series going to be Aoi trying to cope with being the only competent production manager left at MusAni?

Anno is more entertaining as a semi-fictional character than any of his anime are so I'm really looking forward to next week

It's probably wishful thinking on my part when I hope this whole arc with the old guy isn't subtle criticism on moe as a trend, right?

I mean, I really don't think there's any reason why someone who isn't a good artist with solid fundamentals wouldn't be able to "moe it up". It's not like it's some bizarre subtle technical craftsmanship thing. And drawing cutesy cartoon animals is closer to cutesy cartoon girls than say, being someone who worked on a Fist of the North Star anime.

Wouldn't WANT TO? Maybe! Not naturally suited towards? Possibly, but incapable of? To put a spin on an old nugget, if moe was hard, then everybody wouldn't be doing it.

Given how detailed this show is regarding industry trivia, I'm sure Anno's real living room looks very close to that.

It could be his office/reception room at Studio Khara

I don't see how getting stuck with that sadsack director is happiness

He's really just a slightly more functional Tarou

I'm not sure a movie would be a good fit for something that has been as procedural as this story has been. I also have questions about whether or not they'd be able to strike the moe girls/crushing trials and tribulations of reality balance quite as well in a 90-120 minute timeframe.

There's lots of good TV shows about making TV shows, but comparatively fewer movies about making movies Well, good movies at least... that aren't pornography.

It's an out of nowhere anime original hit that had a second volume sell faster than the first. At the very least we're getting a movie.

A real movie or a compilation movie?

If they make a real movie I want them to talk about how lovely compilation movies are
