I'm a weirdo who's memorized his finger placement on the keyboard so if I put crouch in a place I can't reach with my left pinky it fucks my whole game up.

In source games I like to bind space to a combination of jump and crouch. It's hosed that you are expected to do weird hand crunching gymnastics to get up simple obstacles. Jump on the crate should be 2 buttons max.
