I thought the Richard Kiel episode was good, but this was even better. One of the most inspirational things I've seen in a while, thank you for this. And seriously, these videos are great and will get you to places. Keep it up.

Those clips from that documentary at the end make him sound like a total weirdo, but that's cool because weirdos own.

Good stuff as always.

Are you a good person?
How many actors of Blossom's generation started out on Naked City? That show was a who's who.

In an old Jonas Mekas book I have he's briefly mentioned having done in the mid '60s what sounds like a couple film-theater hybrid works of some sort. Google turns up nothing however.

e:

quote:

November 18, 1965 . . . I will continue with the report on the New Cinema Festival at the Film-Makers' Cinematheque.
. . .
Roberts Blossom's program was an expanded theatre (not an expanded cinema). Two pieces, however, Duet For One Person and Poem For the Theatre (both danced by Beverly Schmidt) fused the two mediums and produced something, we weren't sure what--Blossom calls it Film-Stage. Blossom used the dancer, color slides projected on the dancer and the background; and a motion picture of the same dancer projected on the stage (as the dancer danced).

Google-fu does however turn up mentions of something from around the same time simply called "Movie" he directed with the Warhol superstar Mario Montez.

Interesting. I thought I had read this somewhere, just wasn't sure of the authenticity. Also saw a blurb somewhere that he dabbled in Scientology early on.

Also, the only interview I could find with him was conducted in 2003: http://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/article/Home-alone-with-his-words-Retired-actor-2622962.php

New video, sort of:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3hPI569uFc

One of the next episodes is going to be focused on Josh Perry, aka "Ponceman," aka The Retarded Policeman on YouTube. Besides the Internet, Josh ended up getting into a career in film and television.

I'm flying to Louisiana on the 7th and interviewing Josh and his whole family for the episode. I just uploaded a video asking if people had any questions they wanted to ask Josh, his brother Scott, or his parents. If anyone in this thread has anything they'd like us to ask, post it!

Links for reference:

Yeah! Pretty cool. Someone at IMDb contacted me interested in doing short, bite-size episodes once a week. We're trying it out for a few weeks. I may keep doing it.

Also, Crispin Glover likes my episode I did about him!

Time for a little robot chauvinism!

Have you considered doing Ray Wise at all? His legacy will forever be Twin Peaks but he's taken on such weird projects - from being one of the best Satans in TV history on the otherwise okay Reaper to his work with Tim & Eric. And of course Robocop and Swamp Thing.

Wesley Mann was the caterpillar in the Alice in Wonderland TV show? Holy poo poo.

I stumbled upon these on youtube last month and couldn't stop watching them. I really like the Scatman Crothers one. You can tell you put a lot of time into them. I really hope you start getting more attention.

Recently, I started making some shorter episodes exclusively for IMDb. Here's the first one, and the link to the second one is in the description. I won't flood the thread with these since they'll be released once a week. Hopefully, it'll become a regular thing!

My favourite bit of Harry Dean Stanton trivia is in Marc Eliot's biography of Jack Nicholson where he relates the story of how in the late 60s Nicholson was distracted from working on screenplays by Stanton always hosting orgies with starlets at their house.

Your YouTube series is really great by the way. The effort put into them is obvious and it's important to develop an appreciation of these people who are so often the genuine artistic actors working in film (I subscribe to the "artist as outsider" theory and if you're an outsider actor, you end up being a "character actor" in most cases).

Putting in another vote for Tom Noonan ...

I was surprised to see No Small Parts pop up on my newsfeed recently and I'm happy it's starting to get the recognition it deserves. I loved the Michael Jeter episode and how you managed to capture a lot of footage that I've never seen of his work previously. Crispin Glover is another one of my favorites, although you could easily extend what you have into a two-hour documentary for how interesting and weird his life has been. I know you probably get requests all the time and no doubt have your own projects queued up, but I'll just put a shout-out here for Richard Farnsworth, who is probably my favorite character actor ever. I hope he's popped up on your radar as well because I think he's just the best at being That Guy in every western, a prolific stuntman who could also act. One of his first film appearances was an uncredited role in Gone With the Wind!

I really enjoyed these and I've been recommending them to some of my movie buff friends. I think it's interesting how there is a large amount of character actors that a majority of people just seem to gloss over in favor of the big stars headlining the film. This series made me look at supporting actors in a more critical light. Thanks for these!

Thanks for this! I was watching a Best of the Worst episode where they observed that Robin William's performance of Mrs Doubtfire was based off a Canadian variety show presenter and it makes me wonder if the writers of the Wrestler didn't base their movie on Norbert. Or it may just be that the documentary about him was consciously aping that movie.
