I also missed the subtle cues of the reveal. Up until Chapter 4 or so I thought the drunk abuser was the unseen male (maybe not even the kid's biological father) and the soggy woman represented Mommy as victim (water = tears, or so my logic went, and he'd obviously consider Mommy crying very upsetting and hide whenever that happened) I'm glad Teddy didn't use baby talk on us like Mommy did, but he sure used some mighty big words on a kid who couldn't even read. And I wonder if it was a design decision or symbolic that Teddy gradually became more and more silent as the we progressed through the levels, only saying his default "back in the hub world" phrase.
