This game is actually pretty fun and if you enjoy trying to find ways to game the system you will have way more fun too. I'm including the great OP written by Sulley here (I do not have the attention span to write such long OP's so appreciated) and if you have anything else you want added to the OP like guild info lemme know.

ArcheAge is an MMORPG created by Korean company XL Games. The game was released in Korea in early 2013, and in Europe and North America on September 16, 2014. ArcheAge is described as a "sandpark" MMORPG, which the developers say is a hybrid of the open content style of a sandbox game and the more structured play experience of a themepark game.

In terms of gameplay, there are structured zones in which you can do traditional questing. Early level zones are structured for PvE, or player vs. environment. Later zones put the player in areas that are flagged for player versus player combat the majority of the time. A robust crafting system allows players to gain significant experience from the creation of items or harvesting of resource nodes. In ArcheAge, it is completely viable to eschew traditional questing almost altogether by operating a farm or fishing.

Archeage is technically a free-to-play game and if all you want to focus on is combat you can get by without spending a cent. However, you have additional options in both the cash shop and Subscription Model.

The cash shop has a selection of cosmetic items, consumables, and a couple purchases that are fairly long term. The cosmetics include not only costumes of various decor, but also t-shirts and masks that allow for the use of uploaded custom logos and skills for use on masks, t-shirts, columns, flags, sails, and other poo poo. To upload something you need memory ink which is another cosmetic cash shop item. Under consumables they have some things that will negate death penalties to an extent and, more importantly if you are all over the crafting aspect of the game, potions that will help replenish your labor pool. They also have a small selection of decent mounts and gliders though nothing that is 'must have'. Also available is a certificate that will let you sell things on the auction house.

You can craft your own vehicles in the game, including sailing ships. Trade and piracy plays a huge role in ArcheAge. If regular old sea-fare doesn't cut it for you - you can do things like this if you have a harpoon on your boat:

Yes, that is a fishing boat that has harpooned an airship to catch a ride. It is not uncommon to find harpoon ships in the middle of the desert. It just might take you some time to get there.

The story concerns a battle between 12 heroes and Kyrios, the god of death. The battle results in several companions dead, an entire continent wiped out, and a mixed, perhaps non-existent victory. "The future is uncertain," the lore series proclaims. "While others linger in the legends, in blissful memories where time can stand still, I like to imagine new heroes will be born. Heroes who will rewrite our mistakes, find those we left behind, and steer us to a brighter age."

You may read the lore released thus far in it's entirety below
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

The game is divided into two primary factions - East and West. There are currently four playable races in the game. Each continental faction has two races. Two new races are in development (one for each faction), with an additional two being planned.

Harani are survivors in the truest sense, capable of extreme and heroic acts serving the interests (and preservation) of their people. Practical, cunning, and family-minded, it is no surprise the strength of their new kingdom rivals the strength of the kingdom they lost.

The restless, nomadic Firran roam the wilds, fueled by dreams of reclaiming their former glory. They believe every life – no matter how small – is not only valuable, but plays a critical role in the natural world. All Firran strive to find their purpose and play their part. The Firran are an anthropomorphic feline race, they live in nature and are expert hunters. Each member of the Firran race has a white lion as a pet, which serves as a mount and is also a constant partner in life.

Called the Conquerors of the Continent, Nuians possess a deeply spiritual culture that revolves around Nui, the Goddess of the Hereafter. They revere the beauty and harmony of their fallen kingdom and fight fearlessly to maintain the traditions that brought them to power.

Elves look very humanoid, similar to Nuians but more elegant , beautiful and harsh at the same time. Preferring more natural architecture the Elves are often found secluded deep within forests, avoiding other races as much as possible. Though envied for their beauty, their behavior is considered incomprehensible: hoping for an honorable death, they seek out danger no matter the odds.

In addition to these four, Dwarves (west) and Warborn (east) are in active development. Afterwards, Faeries (west) and Undead (east) are being planned. There have been no announcements regarding timing for either.

One of the coolest features of ArcheAge is it's varied class system. Instead of just picking one particular class, you pick three specializations. This combination of skills, based on ten core specializations, gives ArcheAge a mind-numbing 120 unique classes from which to choose.

Class combinations may be found Here.

The Ten Specializations

Battlerage
This specialization includes powerful blows, inflicting devastating damage, as well as methods of buffing the warrior and weaken his enemies. Charge in, fight up close, and keep your targets from getting away! This Skillset is primarily focused on offensive prowess with passive abilities that boost your attacks and provide some compensation for dual wielding weapons.
Patron of soldiers considered Kyrios, the god of death and destruction.

Sorcery
Smite your enemies with ranged and area-of-effect damage in the form of fire, electricity, and ice! Sorcery passive abilities increase damage while its multiple status effect combos provide ample disruption among its targets.
Wizards considered their patron Aranzeb.

Archery
Rangers considered their patron Tayang Kaldzhit. This Skillset focuses primarily on ranged damage dealing – as one might expect – with the tradeoff of ranged abilities having a damage penalty when too close to the target. Some active abilities help keep the target at a distance while applying damage-over-time and other effects, and its passive abilities boost mobility and ranged physical damage.

Vitalism
Keep yourself and others alive with heals, heals over time, protection spells, and resurrection. Vitalism passives increase your mana pool and the potency of your healing effects.
Patroness of these soldiers is considered Kiproza Deyer, keeper of the gates of the world.

Occultism
Focused on applying a variety of status effects and debuffs from a distance, this Skillset is great for bringing a few more tools to your damage or healing setup. Its passives boost your mana regeneration and chance for magic critical hits.
Patroness of such charmers is considered goddess Nui.

Shadowplay
Fast attacks and high mobility in and out of combat situations are the specialties of Shadowplay, especially stealth and surprise attacks. Its passives lower aggro generation, increase your evasion, and boost your chance to score high-damage critical hits.
Patroness of murderers considered Melisara Rivolla.

Defense
Patron of these brave warriors is Shatagon, the god of abundance. This is the primary Skillset for those who want to pick up a shield and take some damage, packing the high-protection skills, taunts, and damage mitigation of a “tank.” Its passives focus on blocking and reducing incoming damage.

Auramancy
Hero who has chosen this path, move instantly on the battlefield using Teleportation, while remaining virtually invulnerable to magic attacks enemies. This support Skillset deals in buffs for the caster and their group, debuffs for your enemies, and a mix of light healing, defense, and crowd control. Its broad toolkit makes for good group support.
Patron of soldiers considered Hase, god gates and seals.

Witchcraft
This Skillset is all about crowd control – both applying and removing it. Witchcraft spellcasters lock down fights and control battles while their passive abilities increase defense and crowd control intensity.
This school considers Daut, the goddess of the seas and change, their patroness.

Songcraft
This specialization encourages fighters with the sounds of a lute or a lyre.As the Skillset for any aspiring bard, Songcraft comes with a variety of tricks. Its abilities include ranged damage and crowd control, buffs and small heals, debuffs, and more – all good tools to have access to whether solo or in a group! Its passives primarily boost Songcraft abilities.
Lucius is considered the patron of the bards.

Can I combine any class I want? Or are some combinations terrible?

For starters, never combine Battlerage, Archery, or Sorcery. Don't. Ever. Not only will they be terrible from a meta standpoint, but you won't even have fun while you suck. Battlerage's primary modifier stat is strength, archery's is agility, and sorcery's intelligence. So you want to be a badass battlemage? Good luck getting gear that allows you to do either one of those things competently.

Basically, there are three "offensive" skill trees. You generally choose one of these, although there are quite a few valid classes that don't use any of them. None use two. They are Battlerage, Archery, and Sorcery. You supplement these with other skill trees. They include, for some utility: Occultism, Witchcraft, and Shadowplay. Occultism has lots of aoe and CC and passives that give you magical crits, making it a fairly natural pair with sorcery if you're trying to ball out as a mage. Witchcraft gives you lots of CC. Shadowplay gives you invisibility, a gap-closer, a leap, and stuff to make archery better. There are also a couple of defensive skill trees: Defense and Auramancy. Defense gives you plenty of tankiness abilities, fucks over archers, etc. Auramancy gives you a metric fuckton of escape/anti-cc. You have a 15m blink with a passive that gives a 50% chance for your blink to immediately reset its cooldown. You have "Shrug It Off" which allows you to immediately become un-stunned and are immune to stuns and impales for a duration. You have an anti-shackle and anti-silence.

Finally there are the support trees. Vitalism is pretty versatile and can be used on a dedicated support healer or can be thrown on somebody with Battlerage/Defense and they can use it primarily on themselves to just be really tanky and annoying while they DPS archers to death. The last skill tree is Songcraft. Remember how I said that Battlerage/Archery/Sorcery should never be combined? Songcraft shouldn't be combined with those either. The reason for this is that you can't have your instrument out at the same time that you need your weapon for the other trees, making you pick between whether you want to support or fight at any given time.

If you want to be a battlemage, then go something like Battlerage/Witchcraft/Auramancy or Battlerage/Occult/Aura. If you want to be a stealthy battlemage, swap out auramancy for shadowplay. Lots of classes use either auramancy or shadowplay to give them some escape/survivability. The most popular build in the game right now uses both (Primeval - Archery/Auramancy/Shadowplay).

(Thanks ErectorBeast)

Archeage boasts a huge map, bigger than World of Warcraft's. The map currently consists of 3 continents, the Haranya and Nuia and Auroria. There are 2 factions in the game, which of course are at war with each other. These factions occupy the 2 lower islands which make up the game's Realm Vs Realm content. The Middle island is an isle devoted to PvP/Piracy and it's many forms since it is not owned by a faction but by players. The isle houses very high end turn ins for trade packs and a mob that drops a unique boat schematic. Additionally players may form factions to take control of the northern continent Auroria, warring against not only eachother but Haranya and Nuia as well.

The map, further, is divided into regions with very little instancing. There are multiple dungeon instances in the game, vast ocean areas, and a variety of overland areas. One of the miscellaneous areas is Mirage Island, where all manner of houses, boats, and furniture may be bought. The seamless map design makes it hard to distinguish when you enter a new region, although you will know when your map changes. This means that if you aren't paying attention it's easy to get lost, but at the same time it's easy to find a nice and comfortable site to build your house as each region on the Eastern and Western continent has housing locations.

Within Archeage there are a variety of ways to travel, boats and ships, cars, wagons, portals, ground mounts and gliders. None of the main world in ArcheAge is instanced and if you aren't teleporting (which costs crafted materials) you are using these modes of transporation. Here are some screenshots of a few of the options. You will be stealing plenty of player goods on the ships.

[timg] http://i.imgur.com/y1frNyC.jpg [/timg]

Gliding

You'll often see screenshots of ArcheAge with people using gliders all over the place. Gliding is such an integral (and cool) part of getting around in ArcheAge that I think it deserves its own little subsection. You can buy a pretty good glider at any point from the cash shop, or you can build a glider up through questing and game currency. The regular, non-cash shop variety starts out kinda junky, but can be upgraded for not very much to be on par with the cash shop gliders.

Besides providing a big boost to mobility throughout the world, gliding can get you to places that you can't get through normal locomotion. One of the things that really sold me on the game was the hidden aspect to the game world. You know how in most games, you'll see a big mountain range in the distance and you know that's where the world ends. Well, in ArcheAge, the developers sometimes like to let you get over those mountains, almost exclusively with glider mechanics.

And there's no invisible wall. Vast stretches of land sometimes greet you once you get over those big hills and mountains, where people like to hide giant unprotected tree and animal farms. This is a way for people to kickstart their production goals much more quickly than via regular, protected farm space. It's also a way for you to steal every one of those trees and kickstart your own production, or sell it all off on auction, whatever.

As mentioned above, there are two main factions in the game: Western (Nuia) and Eastern (Haranya). These factions are at war, so you can kill any player from the other faction without penalties.

Attacking or killing an ally however causes blood stains to appear on the ground. Blood stains can be reported by other players, generating both crime and infamy points for yourself. 1 point per assault, and 10 points per murder. After a player has 50 crime points, if they are killed in pvp they will be teleported into the criminal justice system to stand trial for their crimes. Several other players will be summoned in to stand judgement over you with a list of information such as your crimes, your past convictions, your total crime history etc. You will know you have passed this point because you will have a debuff called "Wanted".

After a player gains 3,000 infamy points, they will be forced into the Pirates’ Faction. Pirates are at war with both Nuia and Haranya. Pirate’s island is a place where they live, trade, build houses and sell loot. They can create guilds and attack castles. If a pirate is killed in PVP either of the southern continents, they will go through trial and imprisonment within their original nation's judicial system, where they will serve a mandatory 40 minute prison sentence. Pirates killed on open waters or in Auroria to the north will simply respawn.

Sieges

There will be special mass PvP battles with 100 players on every side. The goal of a battle is to take control over castle. There are several castles in the game, but players can build their own castles.

When a siege starts siege machines and fleet attack can be used. There are several types of siege machines in the game.

Video of a player siege. Fairly old but still gives a good general idea The concept in a siege is to capture the rotating glowing sword relic in the center. That structure is what claims the territory around it.

Houses can also be built in many places throughout the world and come in various types, sizes, and architectural styles. You can construct different houses, which vary by size, type and architecture. This system lets you construct your own house from labor points and resources. Others may also contribute labor and resources to your construction. Once you build a house you can also choose the furniture, as well as get a yard or a farm where you can grow fruit and sell it to other players.

Being a game with a player driven crafting system it's quite important to have a diverse and powerful group of crafting specialties. All of these abilities can be maxed out on a single character just like the combat specializations. Not all of these create objects as well. Larceny, for example, specializes in being a detriment to other players.

Alchemy
Potions, gear enhancement stones (Lunastones), reagents for other crafting recipes, dyes.

Carpentry
Wooden weapons, furniture.

Commerce
Regional Specialties (trade packs), also gained by successful Auction House sales.

Composition
Gained by writing and saving sheet music for the Composition system. Increased skill level allows you to write longer compositions and play compositions without mistakes.

Construction
Non-production skill. Gained by completing construction steps on structures and ships.

Cooking
Make food and drinks that provide combat buffs and health/mana regeneration.

Farming
Planting and harvesting fruits, vegetables, or grains. (ex: corn, rice, tomatoes)

Fishing
Gathering skill. Salt and freshwater fishing, plus sport fishing for large fish!

Gathering
Planting and harvesting herbs and flowering crops. (ex: azalea, clover, cotton)

Handicrafts
Instruments, jewelry, fishing tools, miscellaneous home décor.

Husbandry
Care and feeding of domesticated livestock.

Larceny
Non-production skill. Gained by theft of unprotected crops or livestock from same-faction players.

Leatherworking
Leather armor, refining pelts, other leather goods.

Logging
Gathering skill. Maintaining and chopping down trees.

Machining
Vehicles, ships, gliders, and associated small parts.

Masonry
Hereafter Stones, refining stone.

Metalwork
Plate armor, refining ores to ingots.

Mining
Gathering skill. Collecting ore and gems from mining veins.

Printing
Paper, music paper, books.

Tailoring
Cloth armor, refining fabric.

Weaponry
Creation of metal weapons.

Archeage has issues (client side EVERYTHING) but it's not circling the drain with devs abandoning ship so between a poo poo sandwich and turd soup choose Archeage. You can steal merchant ships for profit, make people rage in chat by blockading farm tractors and name yourself Minti.

Yeah, Wildstar is just dead since it relies on raids with ridiculous attunement and stuff like that for content.

With this game if you want content you just murder someone else and take their poo poo.

I was honestly thinking about the same thing last night. I like the way AA handles the farming and all on your land and illegal farms, but the hackers/botters/Patron required etc poo poo to own land (Not to mention the fact there is none) is just making it dull for me. The way their backend works make it sound like adding more houses and players with houses would dramatically increase the amount of data the servers need to validate. They are going to double the effective space for housing with this patch but they had to rework their database for it to work and are spending an entire day to make sure nothing blows up.

All my friends have told me I'm dumb for not just leveling Archery/Shadowplay on my current character, but when I point out that questing to level is much faster than waiting for labor and doing tradeskills they all give some variation of "ehhhh".

Am I actually missing something here?

The exp you get from labor expenditure scales up with your level. So level 50 labor exp funneling into a level 15 skill goes up quickly.

The current state of Aranzeb <Goon Squad> is that a lot of the poo poo stirrers and drama queens have flamed out in glorious melt downs and ban mes. What's left is a core of Goons that didn't play alpha and are learning the game together. We are pretty weak on the overall power scale on the server, but we are ramping up our commerce activities to gear up. Soon we will be picking random fights across the world to re-establish <Goon Squad> as the collector of pubbie tears. Hopefully soon pubbies will have more to cry about than Minti.

This game is perfect for empty-headed dunces that don't like to think much!! Of course, I'm a genius... I wonder why I'm so good at it?!

Definitely the person who had an admin change their post count to act as a honeypot for dumb faggots like you (AA goons) and totally not the people (AA goons) who have gone full on kiddiefucker defending by kicking all the sane people out.
