Downloading this right now. I don't have much time for games these days thanks to working two jobs but add me for some possible online hunting / anime action at weird EST hours:

that's dumb. I still want to do it because I'm stupid and hate money.

Isn't that "DLC" just for changing your "home" city you pick at the beginning of the game? At least wait until some real stuff shows up to waste money on like me. Hello, extra $20 left in my PSN Wallet from Paypal funding, my anime slave shall be the grandest of all!

I failed the first civilian rescue mission three times. Then I figured out that the "Scatter" team command lets everyone go off and do their own thing rather than follow you around. Still getting used to the controls and the lock-on mechanic, but loving the game so far.

^^^No, talk to your Accessory in your cell and it should be the bottom option. Save right before any new mission or you'll have to watch all the cutscenes, etc again each time you fail. ^^^^

So what's the deal with facial hair in this game? I played the demo and there was an option to give yourself like a goatee but I can't find it here in the English release, is it an Entitlement you have to unlock or something?

Beards/goatees are in the Stickers options. You have to pick the position that's right over the mouth then make them bigger. Weird way to go about it. Also kind of annoying that you can't have more than 1 sticker on your face. I want a beard and a NO LOVE tattoo on my face, dammit! And yeah, where's my bald option?

A suggestion for anyone else having trouble with the lock on system: You can change it to Manual Only in the "Other" options. This has made a huge improvement for me. That and giving my robot buddy a huge rocket launcher and the "Destory Parts" order. :black101: Now if only I were any good at PvP.

I just tried an optional mission in Code 5 and spent more time reviving people than attacking before deciding to just give up. I guess you're supposed to save the optional ones for later, but I've done all of them up to this point so it caught me off guard.

Dumb question, but have you been unlocking the higher equipment levels for your comrades? I totally forgot about this and was having the same issue with some Code 3 stuff. Once I got my main people up to Level 3 and 4 things were noticeably better.

One beef with online play: If a host quits / gets disconnected just as you fulfill a mission requirement you should still get all the resources / points for completing it, dammit. Three times today a host left just as we were killing the final biped thingie :argh:

Is there a way to invite people from your created room? I've checked all the options, I think, and there doesn't seem to be a way to do it. I know you can set the other 3 slots to private and give out the room info over IRC or something, but it'd be much easier to just invite people once it's all set up. I've been jumping between FW and Samurai Warriors 4 and in SW4 it's easy to pick a level and then invite someone to run through it with you.

I'm still getting a pretty decent fill up rate, but I see people on my friends list - some from this very thread! - playing this game and I want to invite them. Ah well, I'll be off and on most of the night going through CODE 4 stuff and buying new dressup entitlements for my animes while I watch basketball. Join me. Thank you, won't you?

EDIT

And for some reason my connection is fine as a guest but really sucks as a host. So if anyone else creates a room and sees me online go ahead and shoot me an invite. I've got facilities to upgrade and color palletes to unlock!

Awesome! posted:

MH style games can be pretty divisive so it's hard to say whether you would like it or not. does the idea of fighting one huge monster for 10+ minutes appeal to you?

This, plus remembering to check all the stuff you want/need to do to get better items and gear between fights. If this style of game hooks you, it hooks you good but if it doesn't it can just be a boring, confusing mess. The first two times I tried MH (MH2, MHFU) I hated it and didn't understand why the hell people spent hundreds of hours on these types of games. Something clicked for me with MH3U and now I love this style game.

You get into a rhythm of Fight -> Talk to people + upgrade poo poo -> Fight, and the "just one more" feeling can take over and then where the hell did the last 3 hours go? And once you get the hang of going online you'll lose even more time if you get in with a decent group with a stable host. That rocks because you can load up on resources without even realizing it and then upgrade / make / donate a ton of stuff at once.

Speaking of which, I went through and sent friend requests to everyone so far. My PSN is Static_Rook Gonna be playing off and on while I watch some college fb today and NFL tomorrow.

When facing the spider abductor, if you take out its head it can't do that spin move anymore. Made things much easier. And if you take out the small launchers on the top of its legs it won't shoot all those small webs. Not sure if there's a way to make it stop jumping, that move killed me the most so far.

EDIT

The head only took 2 clips from my Level 5 assault rifle to take out so it's not that strong

Strange, I always shoot the head off but it will spin for days for me. Also are those pods resistant to piercing damage? Because I use a sniper and a polearm and never have I ever broken those missile pods.

I assumed it was the head, it's the small part that spins really fast while the spider thing does its spin attack. After fighting it a few more times, I noticed it regained a spin attack near death but it didn't last as long. Not a big deal in open space but in the cramped area mission it can be a pain.

As for the missle launchers. The small ones on its back legs are hard to pinpoint but they can be taken out. I think the spider can still launch those small webs, but there are less of them. The big launchers on its back are hard to destroy. When I used the Minmas I couldn't get'em, but using a knife I could if I just concentrated on them only.

My best loadout so far for severing parts has been a Level 5 Murasame knife and a Level 5 EZ Katze rifle. I can keep up the damage on a specific part by shooting it and then clinging and wearing down the sever meter when I get a chance. Jump away and repeat. I also have my Accessory with a rocket launcher and order it to Destroy Parts. I die alot but most people / AI are good about reviving.

I suck at this Escort Abductor mission. I am real bad at killing small enemies apparently

Edit: Yeah I have no idea what the gently caress commands I am supposed to issue to my allies to actually stay with the goddamn thing because keeping up with it and hitting Cover Me doesn't really do poo poo. loving hate escort missions

Use the "Suppress Personnel" command and make sure you're the one who picks up the beacon. Run ahead and place the beacon and then stay around it and take out any enemies that pop up nearby. When the abductor gets close, pick up the beacon and run ahead again and repeat. The abductor can't get through that big door that opens when you stand near it so you have to go the long way around. But you've probably seen that map enough to know the basic route by now.

After the initial wave of enemies, they usually don't spawn fast enough to cause any trouble. Forget about melee weapons and just take a couple EZ Katze rifles and some ammo boxes + whatever other items. Have your accessory follow you so you can get revived if you happen to die. Use the level 1 charge effect of the defense thorn at the beginning to help.

I'll update the list later tonight so it can be used in the OP whenever.

Basically just grind Code 8 Citizen Rescues while waiting for your timers to run out, and just cycle those. Getting a weapon buffed out takes literal hours, so you may as well be doing something in the meanwhile.

Earlier citizen missions that are also good and quick are 2-1 and 4-2. You can also keep taking citizens to the RRCs after completing the mission and waiting to return to your cell. 4-2 is good for this since the map is so small. Ordering your team to Protect Citizens will make them save people as well. The citizens on top of the towers seem to be higher value than the others, but I'm not totally sure.

animaCartographer posted:

I think I am either missing something, or the game is missing a codex or something, because jesus christ I cannot tell what missions have the exact mk version of what I need, and I have no idea what piece or requirement will get me pieces of materials that I need for upgrading and it is infuriating. Anyone know how I can tell what missions will give me the exact stuff I need?

There's gotta be some crazy Japanese Wiki for the game that no one's stumbled upon yet. There always is for these games.

The only way I've found so far is to highlight the component you need and the scroll at the bottom will tell you the abductor type that drops it. Then just scroll through the missions and find one where you fight that type. EDIT: Or the Select thing, I didn't know that!

But yeah, there's a whole lot of info (drop rates, etc) that we just don't have yet. I tried looking on Play Asia for some kind of "FW Bible" or something but there didn't seem to be any. I'm lame enough to want one and use my rudimentary J-language skills to figure stuff out.

I randomly had one use the defense boost thing, but it was only one time. I've never seen any AI use the level 2 ability. On the other hand, Healing Thorn AI is usually on top of poo poo.

Also I seemed to have picked up a weird variant on the Katze model of assault rifle. Its white and blue and does like 540 damage and I do not know where the hell I picked it up. Does the game just spawn rare versions of models or is this thing a reward for something?

You or your accessory picked it up from a dead enemy somewhere most likely. What's the rarity level? Check out how many slots it has for modules, too. It's page 3 of the weapon details. If it's higher rarity, the weapon should have way more slots.
