Semantically, "you" is both singular and plural, though syntactically it is always plural. It always takes a verb form that originally marked the word as plural.

Also, there is no plural when the context is an argument with an individual rather than a group. Somfin shouldn't put words in my mouth.

Probably because anything to gently caress up the signal of prisoners' contraband phones will also gently caress up the guards' phones.

Also, depending on where things are and the size of your prison, it's not exactly that easy. You look at the size of some of these bigger prisons, you'd have a very tough time blanketing those suckers to prevent cell-phone usage.

Germany is doing it in some of its prisons. It's expensive as hell and has questionable effect on the security of the prison.

The system consists of hundreds of small jammers that only become active once they detects a mobile phone signal inside the prison, which is the only way how it could ever get approved by government. Problem is that it doesn't really block handheld radios, baby monitors and many other stuff. So if you want to plan an escape with someone outside, you can still do so. I guess it keeps prisons from watching porn and chatting, but is that really worth a couple millions $?

The newest technique is just to set up local towers for all of the cell phone networks inside the prison. The signal from the local tower will overpower anything from outside so all cellphones in the prison will connect to them. You then set up a white list for the phones of prison staff and every other phone can't do anything (and generates an alert). The only issue is that there has been spillover into parking lots and local houses in some prisons.

This is actually a good idea b/c it doesn't gently caress up guards using phones in emergencies but wouldn't be be real costly?

Compared to the cost of building and running a prison, I don't think it would be that exorbitant. But I could be mistaken.

Yes, industrial quality ones are around $100K, DIY ones are much cheaper but I'm sure the prisons would buy the commercial ones.

Well I'm out. I overdosed and went to the psych ward... one day before I was supposed to get off GPS tether. I went from the nuthouse to county jail to IDRP (parole violation place, basically a lovely county jail) to Tri-Cap (community based rehab, basically a mix of rehab with minimum security jail). Been clean and on my antidepressants for like 100+ days now.

I actually wrote a bunch of stuff in my journal to post here, covering the nuthouse and the overdose.

I had saved up some paychecks before the overdose and had my girlfriend get an apartment in the next county over. I had my people call my PO over a month ago with the address and poo poo... he didn't even put in the transfer request until yesterday. So as of right now I'm in a "community center" basically an empty apartment where I have a tiny room. I'm loving sick right now... I would have rather stayed in Tri-Cap.

When I feel better I'll write more, I'm just depressed as hell right now. All of my stuff is at the new apartment.

The girl I started dating for only 3 weeks prior to the overdose has stayed with me the whole time, writing me, visiting me, etc. Her and my mom get along great. So at least I have that.

You guys remember that scene in Step Brothers where they're sitting on folding chairs, eating whipped cream off of paper plates in the empty house... that's me right now.

As always I appreciate all the support you guys have given me.

About the overdose... they say not to mix boner pills with real drugs... they weren't lying.

I wasn't going to the methadone clinic, I just bought a bunch of 10mg pills off the street.

I don't want to every gently caress with opiates or crack again. I want to smoke weed when I get off parole. I had about $100 when I got out of tri-cap, I ended up giving it to my girl so I wouldn't be tempted.

This parole house SUCKS, my mom and dad are going to get me a hotel room. The kitchen here doesn't even have pots or pans, there's a few plastic sporks, a few cups, and a toaster oven. There's an old pedophile downstairs and apparently another dude up here but I haven't seen him come in yet.

I'm working on something right now, just a description of Tri-Cap. I wrote about the overdose in my journal as well as the nuthouse but I'm not looking forward to transcribing my handwritten stories. I'll get to it though. I also decided to take a stab at doing the nuthouse story as a first person narrative, which is something new for me. I don't want to come off like a pompous rear end in a top hat like the dudes in "A Million Little Pieces" or "Tweak". I also found those books to come off as really unauthentic. Dialog has been the main problem for me since I obviously don't remember the exact words.

I'm also going to take some pictures of this lovely community placement.

Thanks for all the support once again.

Edit: Meant to write more but my back is killing me since all I have is a mattress on the floor.

Tricap
Tri-Cap is a hard place to describe if you’ve never been locked up or to rehab in any form. It’s a mixture of both, really. It was by far the easiest time I’ve ever done, possibly easier than prison even (I’ll get into why later). It’s not jail in the sense you are locked in because you can leave any time, it’s just a guaranteed parole violation. Tri-Cap had 3 sides, a woman’s, a men’s probation side, and a men’s parole. The Probation side held around 100 people while parole kept a population of around 10-18. It was a nice amount of people compared to dealing with a 100 people who for the most part don’t know how to jail since they’ve never been to prison.

The “Resident Advisors” are basically the equivalent of a C/O or guard. The RA’s, like most people working corrections, are a mix of true assholes and normal people. In this case though the normal people are pretty much all younger college students pursuing a career in law enforcement. The RA’s though are very polarizing in how they treat you. A few were cooler than any CO I’ve ever encountered while others were more petty than anything I’ve ever seen. The thing about Tri-Cap is it’s low-security, no one is doing any real time (30, 60, or 90 days parole side, 30-150 days probation side), all the parole violators are there for just dirty drops, etc. For example I was there for 60 days and didn’t see one fight, some of the RA’s said they couldn’t even remember the last fight. Despite this a few of the RA’s acted like they were working on Death Row in San Quentin. When I talk about rear end in a top hat RA’s there is one in particular I am thinking of.

You can also smoke at Tri-Cap during smoke breaks. My family wouldn’t buy me cigarettes and in the world I smoke an E-Cig. Unfortunately I couldn’t help but pick up the habit again. There was a big bucket where people threw their butts so I used to go butt diving quite often which I got a lot of poo poo for. Like they’ve never smoked a butt before… Eventually the RA’s put out a memo to watch for me butt diving but a few let me do it anyways. Towards the end I had made enough friends that almost always someone would just split one with me.

Mr. B
Mr. B was one of the worst corrections people I’ve ever had to deal with, every facility has one or two of them though. I don’t even know where to start with this guy… He was ridiculous tight on the rules and would even go as far as to make up his own. If you left your cup unattended at the table he would take it and throw it away, if he caught you talking in the bunk area he would yell at you. Every other RA let us have the remote for the TV, Mr. B made us request to use it to change the channel.

Despite all of this, the guy never really wrote a ticket. Mr. B had done time in the service which is where I think he got a lot of authoritarian senses from. I’m no psychologist but I got the feeling he really enjoyed giving commands and being an rear end in a top hat to a group of people. When confronted one on one though he would act totally different. I don’t know if this is because he didn’t have the courage to be an rear end in a top hat on such a personal level, or if he would just realize that the people he was loving with could truly gently caress him up if they wanted to.

I could type many stories of this guys shenanigans but one incident that stands out is when he tried to take around 20 guys visits. In Tri-Cap you have to fill out a weekly schedule which is ridiculously arbitrary and irrelevant. For example you fill out “0630 wake up”, “0700 breakfast” etc etc. The first few weeks I was there all we did for visits was put “1330 Visit”. All of a sudden he decided to change the required entry to “1330-1430 Visit”. Around 20 people all together did it in the fashion of the old weekly. He at first pulled 4 people from the parole side into the lobby to tell them he was taking their visit away for doing it wrong.

A visit in Tri-Cap is seriously the highlight of the week. It’s worth noting that in prison you can even get visits on Loss of Privileges (you can’t in Tri-Cap as I learned the hard way). Hell, you can even get visits from the hole sometimes.

My friend Brando ended up getting somewhat loud and aggressive. I couldn’t hear the words but I could see his body language and hand gestures. Mr. B ended up giving the visits back.

Despite being a complete rear end in a top hat to us he loved to chime in about his fantasy football team when we were watching a football game. No one would ever respond to him. He also had no ear for sarcasm. Once when he was going on rant about how the army should spend less on mental health I said “Got PTSD, suck it up, pansy” and he agreed with me not realizing I was joking.

Saginaw Psych

When I found out I was going to a jail rehab I figured the therapy was going to be god awful but I was pleasantly surprised. All of the therapy is outsourced to Saginaw Psych which actually does a pretty good job. There are all different types of programs in Tri-Cap, specifically on the probation side. I was on the parole side and I had to attend 3 “pilots” (classes) a day, Monday through Friday. This actually made the time go by faster the majority of the time since the really excellent therapist worked the main bulk of the classes. I actually liked how people tended to keep it real instead of turning into Mr. Rogers all of a sudden. This is something I always hated about rehabs in the world. I get that you’re supposed to be positive and work towards changing, but at least keep it within reality. Like, c’mon, a week ago you were smoking crack in trailers with black mold, now you’re Ned Flanders?

Yeah I remember hearing all about it. I read the first 80 or so pages of the book in jail one time, it just came off as totally fake. I recall a dialog exchange where he told a doctor he had drank a fifth that day, to which the doctor asked how it compared to his daily intake. "It doesn't" was his reply... I don't care how much of a drinker you are a fifth is still a lot to drink. Not to mention he was supposed to be like 20 years old or something.
