XyloJW posted:They encourage reading more than contributing. Individual threads encourage more active posting and participation and community and creativity and goodness. You'll get some of that in megathreads, but you'll get a lot more people lurking. I admit I'm not a contributor but if you just want to, say, watch pictures of cats, a megathread of cat-pictures is wonderful. Start at page one and work your way through the thousands of pages of cat pictures, all without the casual misogyny and racism you find elsewhere on the net. Which is why I like PYF. Most of the threads I frequent have become little more than "PYF [topic] from the imgur frontpage", but at least I'm spared of all the reddit poo poo going on from going to the site proper.

I don't get the hate, is it a "when I was a youngin' we had to walk both ways uphill " thing? It's nice having aggregate-threads. Want endless pages of cat pictures? There you go! Schadenfreude? Over here! I mean yeah, sure you can find those pictures elsewhere on the web, but the convenience of having them all in one place like that is nice. An added bonus is not having to (in general) trudge trough the pages of hilarious racism and stuff you find on so many other aggregate-type places.
