Piccolo is to DBZ what Martian Manhunter is to the Justice League. Wise, analytical, full of exposition, technically one of the most powerful members, and is the go-to guy to get hosed up to establish had strong and bad the bad guy is.

I'd be happy to explain any/all the other parallels between the two franchises.
