I think we give peace officers too much flack. Sure there's some bad ones but I think they're okay overall. Like the state trooper that helped me get my car unstuck last winter. He seemed like a good guy.

When I was in highschool I took classes at a community college for extra credits. I was sitting in a friends car chatting between classes when 5 officers rolled up with their guns drawn and yanked me out of the car. They threw me on the ground, handcuffed me and took me to the station where I was later released. Because of zero tolerance I was kicked out of school and had to get my GED despite NEVER being charged with anything. So thanks cops for not immediately shooting an unarmed black teenager that day I guess.

I agree with the complex idea that not everyone in an extremely large group are likely to be the same and that there will be both positive and negative elements within this group. I trained with some cool cops, like this county deputy dude that was Japanese American and like 5 feet tall and super mellow. Like super mellow, he was cheery all the time. I worried about him because even though he was skilled and diligent, he was just a tiny dude, he had that disadvantage in sparring or leverage or whatever. Last time I saw him he had joined the gaming commission and was rocking tailored suits. I never saw him on the job but it's impossible for me to believe that he was anything other than polite and scrupulous to citizens.

Having worked at an overnight pharmacy and a 7/11 for about five years, I have a healthy appreciation of how the cops can occasionally be of great help. Then again I'm white and I live in canada, so your milage may vary.

A couple months back I stalled my bike and the battery was dead and a cop stopped and asked me if I needed any help getting it out of t he road or push starting it. But I didn't so he left. The tags were expired, but he either didn't notice or didn't care.

Even the nicest cop in the world is still awful because of the laws they are tasked with enforcing. Any real "good cop" would be fired because they wouldn't ruin people's lives over a bag of weed.

Most of the cops in my area are pretty cool as long as you aren't a fuckstick to them. Had one buy me coffee because he saw my VA card when I opened my wallet to get cash out the other day. They also let me go for speeding and generally driving like an rear end in a top hat. Usually because they see the giant rear end Square and Compass on my rear windshield. Some times its my VA card. Cops. Usually pretty cool when you aren't a fuckstick*. * - does not apply to the entire state of South Carolina. gently caress all SC law enforcement.

I have always had amiable encounters with the police because I am a very clean-cut looking white man and act super polite because I'm terrified of the ease with which they could literally ruin my life.

Several years ago, some cops in my town shot and killed a guy who was sitting peacefully on his patio, mistaking his garden hose nozzle for a handgun. They apologized afterwards though, which I think makes them good people.

I'm a black guy and I've had nothing but good (and limited) experiences with cops. Got into my first accident (totally my fault) and the cops comforted me because I was crying like a bitch. I was young ok  : Second accident was because of a snow storm and some idiot parked infront of me because he got scared of snow. Cop put me as not at fault and gave me a ride home. I'm Canadian though so eh

Last year my heart stopped for a couple minutes but I'm still alive because I was in the ICU when it happened thanks to my local police constable getting to me incredibly fast when I phoned for help What I'm saying is SA would be free of my posting forever if not for a cop

I wish we were allowed to appreciate public servants other than the police. Firefighters you can say are alright once in a while as long as you've done your fifty hail polices but Teachers? Garbage collectors? Officials that make sure your food isn't full of poisonous cheap ingredients? Nope, no thanks for them.

And I think we give some pigs a hard time for being pigs, but we don't give all pigs a hard time. Just the lovely ones. It's just very hard to convey accurately who the good pigs are, so you'll see more bad pigs (Like the persecutors of Lieutenant Dorner) getting condemnation than good pigs (Like that one boy they brought in from the MO State Highway Patrol during ferguson) getting praised. Some cops are good some cops are bad but all crimes aren't actually illegal and not a goddamn bit of that makes any form of logical sense.
