Just my stupid 2 cents on God: God wants us to be atheist. Yes, I know you just took a double take on that one, but hear me out: When Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, it was a necessity that they be cast out into the world to actually learn Good and Evil through physical experience. Humans, being evolved from the physical world, are creatures of sense, and as the scientific method has shown us it is only through physical interaction with the universe through experience that we can gain the closest thing to objective truth. Only through experience can we truly understand the nature of reality. The sum total of human experience has been a learning process and our ever-expanding collection of knowledge and curiousity is in effect the process of becoming equals with God. In earlier times, humans clinged to religion like a child does to their parent because they were ignorant, and sought out guidance in supposed authority figures and idols. The Enlightenment and the modern era have been a teenage phase for humanity, when we start to question God and his moral principles but stumble and hurt ourselves because we still lack knowledge. Absolving of God and of a predefined "purpose" to reality is the next step in our maturity, and it is at this point that we begin to reach out on our own and move out of the cradle of God's principles and holy words and begin to understand the mind of God himself (and his responsibilities as well). The increasing madness of hardline and conservative Christianity and its total departure from the teachings of Jesus is a sign that finding God through dogma alone is obsolete. You can laugh now. Zaradis posted:You mean you're an existentialist, in the way Nietzsche and Camus were existentialists. Sure, we can recognize that nihilism is the actual way of the universe because there is no god. But that doesn't mean we can't make our own meaning for ourselves and our lives. We can be our own god! E: Also Nietzsche hated nihilism and sought to destroy it.
