the only crossplatform game that looked better on N64 than on PS1 was the South Park FPS game. and even then it needed the plug-in that enhanced the graphics

There were multiplatform games that looked better on the 64.Off the top of my head, THPS looked better on the 64, it also ran at a higher res and framerate.

But if we're seriously discussing N64 vs. PSX graphics, I thought it was really on a game-by-game basis? As in:

-stuff that relied more on textures would look better on PSX because of N64's abysmal texture memory problem
-stuff that relied more on polygons would look better on N64 because of N64's higher polycount and hardware antialiasing

Two seconds of Googling brought me people discussing it on forums and throwing around stats without sources so correct me if I'm wrong but that's more or less the situation, right?

i liked in early 3d gaming how people couldnt make a lot of polygons so we had games where the humans were circles on a bunch of triangles it was good

serious sam is the king of indie games and has never had a bad game, even those weird ones by other developers weren't too bad also ss2 doesn't count

also serious Sam 1 had baller graphics for when it was released and didn't have any of these problems itt

For being a N64 game that didn't require an expansion pack, Conker's Bad Fur Day looked really good.

Also Megaman Legends had some of that weird texture bending but the art direction still makes the game look decent.

I think the early 3D games that still look good today are the ones with relatively simple textures. If you try to get too much detail in there you get poo poo like Aydin Chronicles.

I am eagerly awaiting the day 'retro' indie games eventually move past pixel sidescrolling platformers into the era of lowpoly collectathon platformers.

With annoying sounds accompanying every single thing you do, of course. That was an important element of collectathon platformers.

The more I think about it, I never really liked that kind of game very much. I just tried to convince myself I did because that's all we loving got on the N64.

The voices in Banjo-Kazooie were generally less terrible than actual voice acting in games at that point.

fun fact: the guy who did Banjo's voice is the announcer from Killer Instinct

There is some very sensual touching going on in the cutscene there. i don't actually think it means anything sexual but it's cool how it contrasts with modern ideas of what bad ass stuff should be like. It even seems authentic to some kind of chivalric masculine touching from a tyme longe gone

I don't know what the technique is called, but I liked the way all the 3D models in Ecstatica were constructed of balls in a way that I don't remember really ever seeing in any other game. Also a little girl and a werewolf beat the poo poo out of you and there was a farting bear and you got turned into a frog and a fat witch had to turn you back but then she wanted to make out with you and sometimes a minotaur crucified you and there was an alternate ending where instead of fighting Satan you joined an orgy.

I'm just now beginning to realize that Ecstatica sounds like some sort of porn game and the title is certainly not helping but I assure you that it was in fact a legit game with gameplay in the style of the original Alone in the Dark trilogy.

I always appreciated that the cutscenes in MGS1 were all in-engine, so you had these dramatic events happening with PS1 models wiggling their blurry heads at each other when they spoke. It was charming.
