Innocence was better, although I think I say that more due to the animation and less because of how good the actual plot was. Like pretend you know nothing about GitS and try to watch them again. What's Ghost Dubbing? What's the world like? Why does that one dude have hosed up eyes? A straight adaptation would not work. But if adapted the concept, the themes, the important elements, and then molded the rest to fit a different audience, it could work really well. Lets hope whoever's adapting the screenplay knows what he/she is doing.
