Yeah, I keep hearing stories about vibrant animal life there now, not like, tumor monsters. Perhaps a level-headed re-evaluation of the area's danger wouldn't be out of the question? Though on the other hand, having this sort of accidental wildlife preserve happen is also pretty cool.
Reality is slightly less dramatic than tumor monsters. The fauna is likely dying earlier than they would elsewhere and suffering poorer birthrates in a way that it can certainly be repopulated by animals up to and including humans, but would be bleak and miserable for anyone who could comprehend the situation. Its a roulette sort of situation too where large parts are fairly clean and its mostly stabilized that the worst parts stay where they are, but you're still dealing with stuff like dust and water runoff bringing radiation to places where it wasn't yesterday, so anyone spending any time in the place ends up carrying a geiger counter everywhere.

The article admits he patented the hamdog years ago and the news is he just started selling it. But that is probably the correct headline to actually make anyone care about the hamdog.

There's a few different ways they do it. Sometimes it's like those stick on aquarium thermometers on the cup. Sometimes their dip stick has a patch that changes for correct/incorrect temp. There's occasionally like all in one analytical units that you just stick a cup into and it spits out temp and results. The latter two usually come with someone watching you so you can't say "it must have got cold on the counter while washing hands" and they can just grab it and go. Where the aquarium things are much slower to revert to cold.

Creed, Nickelback, and Coldplay have collapsed into a popular rock music singularity in my mind. The only identifying piece of Coldplay I can hang onto is "not from US" and being the last band standing in popularity they've come up more often but I usually end up talking about them like they are a Canadian Christian-crossover rock band.

New Wave is kind of a big deal to certain pockets of metal. Gary Numan did a spoken word interlude for a Fear Factory album and then they all did Cars together as a bonus track.

If you want a timely example Ministry's demo tapes were basically new wave a decade before anyone knew them as industrial. 80s counter culture was a reaction to punk all the way down so of course the metal folks were listening to and often admiring new wave.
