Can I build my character for stealth stabbing only and thus not have to walk around carrying a whole arsenal of weapons I never plan to use?

I've been wondering this for a while. This picture is on the front of Steam:

Are those supposed to be four copies of the same person, or are they so uncreative with player characters that they are different people but all look exactly the same?

Yeah exactly. A long time ago I heard there would be four characters for co-op, and people asked why they were all guys, and they gave a bunch of hurried excuses that sounded like it was the first time anyone had brought it up.

See the thing is, with the way the co-op is designed, it actually would be a lot of work to animate female characters.
Is it really just about feeling they can't animate women properly without their hips swaying and boobs bouncing? Why not just hang a female model on a generic skeleton and animation set?

Figured that was probably the real reason which is depressing to think about. Read somewhere that the Asscreed franchise is incredibly popular among women players though, who are already making up half of the gaming population. It's like they don't want our money or something.
Until the gender make-up of the developers themselves changes, I don't think they will really understand this issue on a low enough level to actually change their behavior.

I want to play as a female character especially in this setting because drat, it's the French revolution.

Honestly, the way anime is hopelessly mired in self-parody, I assume games will be too since they have a similar market segment.

edit: I guess not games in general, but I'm pretty sure AC targets more or less the same group that plays Call of Duty games and so on.

I wish at the beginning of any long, nearly identical series of games like this, there was an option to just opt out of all the tutorial stuff, or at least only have tutorials for stuff that is new to that specific game.

Like yes, we don't have email with attachments in the abstergo world, so we have to manually transfer the files to some external companies employee who spends their days travelling from office to office and getting their phone really close to other peoples phones. Just scrap real world stuff without any warning and pretend it never happened, ubisoft. It's for the best.
I've been waiting for them to do this since the second game, I don't think it's going to happen. The people who thought up that stupid idea in the first place need to save face, so they will always have at least some of it.

Hell I hate it when any AC game is bad because it's really the only history-focused game series where you actually play as a dude that I can think of. I mean there are a lot of like RTS and grand strategy games that are historical in nature but hardly any where you play as a dude. Like in no other game series can I be a guy running around Renaissance Italy or colonial America, especially one that's trying to be historically accurate (to a point).
Yeah, this is what originally brought me to the series and why I will probably buy this one on Tuesday despite previous disappointments. It's like Dynasty Warriors: what other game series are you going to go to when you have an itch to take a comic book version of an ancient war hero and mow down hapless enemies with them? If there was a better one, I'd be playing that instead.

Why is this even a thing? In either 3 or Black Flag, I forget which, they made it so you will climb on stuff if you run into it even when walking normally, i.e. not holding down R1. That goes against one of their basic design principles from the beginning of the series, and one that I always liked.

So far this looks like it's going to be one of the best in the series, if not the best. The free run down button is something I have wanted for a long time, it allows you to do the only sane thing when you're trying to run away from people and STAY LOW. It's embarrassing that it took them this long.

Yeah, Black Flag was good, but not as an Asscreed game. I still think making a great Asscreed game that gets back to basics is possible, and I hoped this would be it, it seems that it's not. But for me, even a bad Asscreed game is about climbing historical stuff and stabbing historical people, so it's still a pretty ok time for me.

Just to outline some of the problems I had with my first non-immediately-failing coop mission last night:

- Hilarious lag. I don't know if it was because of some server problem or because the person I was playing with was in a 28.8 modem in the middle of Siberia, but I haven't seen anything that bad in over a decade. I was being hit by unseen enemies, and when I swung my weapon I 'd hear them being hit, and then a while later a dead enemy body would slide across the ground and arrive at my feet, which caused me to laugh out loud.

- Quest markers wildly swinging around in space, inside of structures or in midair, or anywhere else.

- I dunno if this is related to coop as such, but I needed to get underground to search for someone (I could see them there using eagle vision), but all of the MARKED staircases were locked. After like ten minutes of searching I found an unmarked staircase that I could use.

- Of course, a co-op partner with no microphone. How silly of me to expect communication in a two-man coop game!

If I'm calm and careful and they rush ahead and distract all the weak enemies, I can look cool shooting the actual target in the head with a rifle from long range, and then just amble away.

Honestly, even though the new combat system is loving terrible and the animations look like they're missing half their frames, fights can still look pretty awesome.
AC has always been more about fights LOOKING awesome than BEING awesome. That hasn't changed for this game.

I do however like that hitting people with the butt of my rifle is just as effective as if I had a sword, and looks so much more forceful since it has the same animation as warhammers and stuff.
