Wasn't going to get either of them anyway. If I felt like playing a good AC game I'd just play Shadows of Mordor again.

did you guys not know about this?

I'm not on AC since 4, I've been on other stuff, but I'm pretty sure very few people personally knew about it. I wonder how many monitors got spat on during double-takes yesterday.

Welp, none too surprising. I can think of a couple of reasons why this would happen. I guess everybody will see together what will happen. It isn't the first time that that company does something pretty far out there to experiment. During the height of DRM outrage, they released POP'08 on pc with no DRM to see if people would put their money where their mouths were in terms of piracy hurting only legit players.

For those curious: it didn't. The console to pc sales curve got messed up, pc piracy ended up far higher. They ended up knowing because the lack of DRM meant nobody bothered to disable the thing in the game that called ubi to tell them know how far the player had gotten. There were way more players that had gotten somewhere than game sales. Well... More than usual.

people are saying that this is like how EA used BF3 to get people to use origin, which would make sense if EA hadn't told people months and months in advance that BF3 would be origin-only and hadn't allowed preorders on Steam at all, and instead pulled their preorders off Steam less than five days before their big annual releases began to launch

yep. sure as hell won't run uplay on my on volition. Annoying enough being forced to run it through steam, but at least it did it for me.

It feels like just yesterday people were enjoying Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Rayman Origins and talking about how maybe Ubisoft wasn't a loving awful company oh well.

Also, all things considered, Origin isn't entirely godawful. Like I'd rather those games just be on Steam, but it's not uplay or GFWL.
