I might like Chris Hedges more if he was not Chris Hedges. His writing reminds me of Orwell's essay on bad political writing, in that his writing consists of ready-made phrases that are machine copy and pasted. He's also espousing two contradictory ideas with the same formulation. In the first, the "rot and corruption" is fueling a right-wing backlash in the absence of a socialist movement, in the second, it's fueling a socialist revolt.
