There's an OSRS version coming too, I think the RS3 one just seems to have had a beta/alpha test more recently. I believe you can still sign up for the OSRS mobile beta here. The last newspost for OSRS mobile looks like they're working on converting the UI right now.

I tried Old School Runescape and boy howdy what a dog! The interface felt ancient and 100x more tedious than RS3. I can only assume that people prefer it for nostalgia reasons?

Most people that play OSRS seem to favor using RuneLite (third party client, open source) to help gloss over the dated interfaces/add functionality. Nostalgia was a big part of it when the OSRS servers launched, but now they've spun off a bunch of bosses/quests/zones that are different from the main RuneScape / RS3.

I'm still waiting for OSOSRS servers to bring the real grind back to the game. :corsair:

OSRS Leagues 2 - Trailblazer is starting in about two weeks (launch currently planned for October 28th) and looks like it'll be pretty fun as a short-term seasonal mode.

I've pasted some of the relevant info from their news posts below, more information about the season (rule set, rewards, etc.) can be found on the official announcement blog linked here.

The info for the league has been revised a few times since the initial announcement and newer info can also be found here and here.

The OSRS wiki team has started assembling info here, and there's a non-goon discord channel with questions being answered by Jagex mods and a ton of community created path planning and theorycrafting resources.

OSRS News Blog posted:

In this approximately two-month League you will start off as a fresh account on a separate game mode locked in Misthalin, where it all originally began.
You must complete tasks to unlock more areas, but choose wisely - you can only pick so many options! As with the last League, the more tasks you complete, the more points you get and the more Relics you can unlock.

Everyone will start with access to two regions, and you'll be able to unlock three more as you progress giving you possible access to five out of the nine total areas.

You’ll start in Misthalin, as would any normal new adventurer… except, of course, this time there are some big differences.

Karamja will be unlocked by completing a tutorial. Beyond this, as you progress you'll have the option of heading to either Asgarnia, Kandarin, Morytania, The Desert, The Fremennik Provinces, Tirannwn or The Wilderness. But choose your regions carefully as you won't be able to change your mind afterwards!
  • You can unlock more areas by completing a fixed number of tasks (instead of League Points)
  • Your choice of area will be limited, so choose wisely
  • Kourend and Kebos cannot be unlocked
  • Only the existing respawn points for areas you've unlocked will be available
  • Death’s Office, the Player Owned House, Random Events and the Essence Mines will be accessible from all areas
  • Tasks assigned by Slayer Masters will take place in areas available to you
  • Be warned - should you manage to somehow escape the area you're locked in, you'll quickly be teleported back!
Ironman/Ironwoman Mode with Accelerated XP Rates

Everyone will play as an Ironman or Ironwoman.
  • There will be no trading between players
  • To accommodate the increased number of Iron players, selected shops will have more supplies and accelerated restocking rates
  • Everyone will have a 5X accelerated XP rate
Tier 1 Relics (choice of one)

Relics provide buffs with which you can customise your gameplay experience. Unlocked via League Points, Relics can offer XP boosts, buffs to combat prowess, additional luck on obtaining drops or even specific skilling buffs.
When you begin you'll be presented with three free Relics to choose from, allowing you to shape your strategy from the off.
Don't stop there, though, as the more Relics you unlock, the more powerful the buffs become! For the first time, in this League each time you unlock a Relic tier you will also unlock a passive buff. There will be six tiers in total.

Relic 1: Endless Harvest
Resources gathered from Fishing, Woodcutting and Mining will be multiplied by 2. The resources you gather are sent directly to your Bank if you have space. If not, they will be placed in your Inventory.

Relic 2: Production Master
When doing the following activities, all items will be processed at once, awarding full XP:
1) Smelting ores, smithing bars and making cannonballs
2) Fletching logs and cutting bolt tips
3) Cleaning herbs and making potions
4) Cooking food and making jugs of wine
5) Crafting leather, uncut gems, glass, jewelry, pottery, battlestaves and spinning flax/wool.

Relic 3: Skilling Prodigy
All non-combat skills will permanently be boosted by 12. When skills are boosted beyond 12 levels, the boosts will over time drain back to the standard +12 boost. By the same token, when skills are drained down, they will eventually restore.

Passive Unlock:
With each new relic unlocked, a passive relic will also take effect:
  • Tier 1: Your Run Energy will never drain while running
  • Tier 2: Your League XP multiplier will increase from 5x to 8x
  • Tier 3: Your drop rate modifier will increase from 1x to 2x
  • Tier 4: Your League XP multiplier will increase from 8x to 12x
  • Tier 5: Your drop rate modifier will increasefrom 2x to 3x
  • Tier 6: Your League XP multiplier will increase from 12x to 16x

The RuneScape that's on Steam is filled with MTX but still pretty OK in Ironman mode.

OldSchool RuneScape (with the Runelite launcher) isn't listed on Steam yet but seems to get more regular updates nowadays and is more worth a try imo.

Leagues launch time is locked in apparently. A big info dump news post is scheduled for 6am eastern time tomorrow and the update is set to launch at 8am.

The news post should cover the remaining unknowns, primarily relic info for tiers 2-6.

One additional relic was discussed on a stream last week, Tier 5, Relic #3 adds 1/10th of your total level in experience to every action. So if you have a fast method of getting experience drops that's normally very low experience (catch + release clockwork mice for example or blast furnace actions), it may end up being OP for the league vs traditional methods.
