everybody implements HDMI-CEC so terribly that there is no guarentee that it will work right.

also doesn't help that it's not even mandatory in the standard so some people get halfway through implementing it and go "aaaah gently caress it" and ship the product

Viewers of a show only matters if you think you can Milk a movie out of it since people still go pay for movies every once and a while

actually, if you were to sell a smart TV you would put together focus groups first and show them the product before you dumped a ton of money into it. Once you determined that consumers want said product you scale your marketing budget accordingly from what you found out in those focus tests.
