It was Bones.

A rumor was posted on 2ch about ~2 weeks ago that Bones was doing this show, with Kenji Nagasaki directing and Umakoshi doing character designs. Take that as you will but that key visual art is definitely in line with Umakoshi's style. If its true that's pretty great staff for a series like this.

the Gundam Build Fighter director?

okay, sure, let's do this

I liked the first FMA anime's ending and didn't even realize it was a made up thing (although I heard it was still written by Arakawa?), and at the time I was under the impression most people liked it too, is it really as hated as DBGT nowadays? :psyduck:

arakawa had absolutely nothing to do with it. You can tell by how relentlessly and pointlessly bleak it is and how it ends up being an hamhanded war on terror allegory (Mizushima loves his politics and it's too bad he's about as good with them as your average political cartoonist)

There's always been people who hate the last half of FMA 2003, even before the manga ended. it's just more prevalent now that the alternative is readily available for comparison

This reminds me of a character from an Alan Moore 2000AD comic -- The Ballad of Halo Jones -- who's basically a person who has had so many sex changes that they ended up somewhere in between, and somehow gained the ability to not be noticed or remembered.

It's not entirely impossible that's the source of the idea. ForgetMeNot was created by ex-2000AD writer Si Spurrier

I don't remember seeing that art before but you're right. That's a good sign. The worry has come from how festival-focused the trailers so far have been, but if they have Stain on the posters it's probably just because the work they have to draw from is all episodes in the first half.

yeah the trailers have likely been festival focused because that's the only poo poo they have animated

The MHA S1 trailers were all like the first three episodes, if you'll recall

no it's actually demonstrably badly paced but thanks for playing

like the reason for it is clearly because they only have 12 episodes and don't want to end the season in an awkward spot but the amount of episodes that are literally just a single chapter is insane

I think setting up your big series of fights with "none of these guys matter and also the actual villain is going to get away" is kind of lame

like sure the actual individual fights can be/probably will be cool but nothing about this set-up is interesting to me

I still think that Overhaul isn't a rival for Deku & friends, but for Shigaraki. Deku & Co care about rescuing Eri, not about Overhaul himself.

The eight plague yakuza robot masters are just an excuse for the main characters to have cool fights while Shiggy offs Overhaul and kidnaps Eri or something along those lines.

Is that a shonen as gently caress thing to do? Yeah. So's the tournament arc. I don't see this as a problem.

I don't think any of it is set up in a compelling way. That's the problem. I don't have an issue with people doing stuff thats "Shonen as gently caress" if they do it well or put a twist on it. This comes off as just flaccid to me.
