There are a lot of people who play, read, or consider playing tabletop games like roleplaying games, miniatures wargames, or plain ol' card games in the Imp Zone. Here's a place to talk about them.

I've finally got my hands on Demon: the Descent, and man is it good. Too bad I'm not going to be able to run it! As for actual gaming, my D&D group is on hiatus for the rest of the month lol. It's a fairly dry time for gaming around here. What's everyone else up to?

i played the 40k relic games and they made me think "hey warhammer 40k might be cool" and i went to a store and bought some miniatures even though they were expensive as gently caress and paints even though they were expensive as gently caress basically everything is expensive as gently caress and after i painted a few of them i realized i was an absolute fucktard idiot so i stopped.

that is my tabletop gaming story.

a common story, displaying a shameful ignorance of joann fabrics and michael's. historical miniatures are cheaper (even importing them from the UK), but then you don't have anyone to play with. my suggestion? model kits and gunpla

Been GMing a Dungeon World game for a bunch of my friends for the past few months. Most of them had never played tabletop before or even thought they were nerdy enough to want to and they're so ridiculously super into it and it owns. Our game is some unholy fusion between Spelljammer, that one Treasure Planet movie, and a bunch of rules from Inverse World. Also there was recently time travel and one of the characters got a pickaxe through the skull and because of his death move ended up possessing a compass and now he's basically Navi from OoT so that's fun.

Has anyone actually played Part Time Gods, I've heard good things about the system but I'd like to hear of any issues before I run it with my buddies.

Also who here is always a GM and who here has never been a GM.

I haven't been able to play a WoD game I'm in for the past 3 weeks because the DM has been working on a "special project" for it. And just yesterday informed us he prob wont be ready and is just going to scrap it. :whitewater:

Kid, don't threaten me. There are worse things than death, and uh, I can do all of them.
I just had a kinda newbie DM try to run FATE and poo poo all over it. I'm pretty sure he was just rolling the fudge dice and just comparing his raw roll to our raw roll to determine success or some other arbitrary thing because we didn't succeed at anything without spending fate points, even when I was rolling my +5 skill on something basic. After he had some armed guards ignore a rioting crowd outside a building we were sneaking into bust us one of our players ragequit and triggered everyone else into giving up too.

I feel bad because he doesn't a lot of experience doing this, but it was also an incredibly frustrating 3 hours. He tried to justify it to me afterwards as some story thing that he spent a lot of time on, but it was very obvious that he hadn't prepared anything.

yeah, I usually have a rough idea of the beginning and end of the session, and maybe one or two setpieces in the middle and roll with how the players approach stuff

I talked to him on the phone and he had some sweet ideas. It was a netrunner theme and he wanted to basically build a corp deck and have us play a game of netrunner but instead of a runner deck, it would be our actions and approaches as a team. But none of that showed up when we played, it was pr disappoint

i usually set my own goal for the players like "level up this session" or "get lots of money this session" or "each of them gets a good item of some sort" which i dont tell them about and roughly sketch out a few different approaches to the goal i then suggest to the players, or they can do whatever they want as long as it fits their characters and i try to add obstacles and poo poo to help them accomplish the goal

drat i really want to play something now, can't find a good group

I played in a star wars saga system campaign, but everyone else was a huge loving star wars nerd and I know jack poo poo about it aside from the movies. I convinced the DM to let me play a squad of clone troopers per some squad rules I found in the book and he okayed it. Whenever I leveled up it was like unlocking new classes in star wars: battlefront and was pretty sweet. I also got to go all out and be completely expendable because you can always get more troopers.

The Order 66 session was really fun

I have a lot of friends who play warhammer who insist it is fun. They constantly complain about having no money, and then brag about getting a bunch of new models they need to put together and paint. It sounds like a really cool time.
