Is this true for most transmissions? I may have been unintentionally beating on mine if it is. :ohdear:

A slightly less lovely way to rig up that radiator fan would be to have the coil side of a relay hooked up to the "on" position of the ignition, and the load side feeding power to the fans. At least that way you can't forget to turn it on/off and overheat/kill your battery.

Have you done anything to the car yet? Also get a service manual because those have a ton of info.

I've got a pair of the basic blue Pittsburg "racing" jacks to get the AE86 up. They work well enough if you're patient (the pressure release will drop your car if you're too hasty) and mine have lasted a couple years already. Well worth the money.

Did you get an undersized jack? I think I remember seeing in the instructions that the pressure release is supposed as a safety if you put too much weight on it.

Well the alternator is driven by one of the belts so it isn't generating poo poo while the belts keep flying off.

Wait I can't remember if you ever fixed those jacked up battery cables in the car. That would definitely cause some intermittent power weirding.

Yeeeeep, was brand new in mid-December. The battery cables are, again, one of the things that I eventually have to replace, but at the moment, getting the car actually running is a bit higher up on the list than battery cables. I'm leaning more towards the alternator being shot. Maybe I can pick up a Nissan Titan 150-Amp Alternator, swap it in like the link a few pages back, and have more amperage than I could ever need charging my battery.

The cables are part of getting it running. Alternators don't use magnets and need an initial voltage input or they can't make any power even while spinning. Upgrading your alternator won't do anything if it doesn't have a reliable battery connection.

Why not just get a cheap generic shitbox to learn to work on instead of PO hosed rusted out nightmares?

Also a shitbox won't have enough torque that you can just dump the clutch like you were doing. You'll get better at it because you won't have a choice, the car will punish you for that poo poo. :v:

That is a pretty great ad.

Edit: those cars are supposedly dangerous as gently caress if you arent used to rear engine rwd layout.

Quite honestly, a lot of people have the wrong idea, and lemme clear this up.

Euphoria is experienced most firmly at the state of a curve at 80+mph and you don't know if you're gonna end up at the end of the turn safe or not.

The Foxbody Mustangs are neat, and lemme make this clear, very very neat, but I dunno how they handle on a high speed curve without for sure spinning out and killing me.

As much as you might recommend me a nice neat Honda Civic or a Saturn Shitbody (I dunno), I really don't want any of those. I want something that is a bad decision that I can drive like a madman and swing around corners, because I know for a fact that the next 20+ years of my life is gonna be a miserable experience of marriage, dealing with it, and loving about with silly cars whose handling I am going to hate and am going to wish was better just for the sake of getting around a corner at 60+mph. I know what I am getting into, because I expect having a silly car project for the rest of my life. Because if I accepted anything else, I'd be selling myself short. I know that I can handle getting a solid car up and running around spring time, and if any of you have any doubts as to that, shove it up your drat arse.

I want a bad decision now so I don't make one later when I want to go fast and I don't know how much work goes into it.

What the gently caress is wrong with you?

He's still posting in other subforums so the car must not have turned to powdered rust mid-drive yet.
