About that....

It's got a REALLY stiff ride. You feel just about every single bump, and it bumps on you pretty hard.

Hope you have adjustable shocks because that poo poo gets old in a DD. If you don't have them I would get them.

That being said, if you have lovely springs too shocks aren't gonna help you anyways.

Get under there and take some pics of the rear shocks/springs and front struts, look for any labeling on the springs that might tell you the manufacturer and/or spring rates.

If they are cut they're garbage.

If the Escort is a GT then get the escort, otherwise buy the Miata. Miatas are great winter cars with snow tires.

Or just re route the piping....That's what I'd do or get a better E fan if that one isn't sufficient.

I wouldn't go quite that far. Yes, there's a buttload of PO fuckery, but Firecock told me he'd be willing to dump about $5K into getting this car running well once he starts working. Reading the plugs would tell us if the fuelling is way off. Once that's sorted and he has a new clutch in place, then it would be pretty good.

He'd be better off putting 5k into something else honestly. I'd get it running halfway decent and sell it. Then buy a Miata :v:

[edit] It's admirable that you want to deal with the car's issues, but what we're saying is unless you have the knowledge to do it yourself you might as well be flushing money down the toilet. If you plan on learning on the car, and committed to do what it takes then go for it, but if you have any reservations about the task at hand whatsoever, you really need to cut your losses or it will end in tears and the car being worth less than what you paid for it after draining your account to get it to run and drive like it should.

Sure hes gonna get upset when everyone is telling him to sell his car. Everyone has a car like this once in there life. What I don't get is why is everyone here still beating the dead horse of selling the car and getting a beater. He wants this body style and motor of car. Hes willing to sacrifice his sanity to a turbo Nissan. For a forum that is automotive insanity we sure are having a lot of Debbie downers acting all automotively sane.

I ultimately don't give a gently caress what he does with the car, but suggesting he sell it and cut loses is not bad advice in this case, sorry.

And waving the NOT INSANITY!! flag is dumb considering the OP has no clue what he's doing, 13" Dick punishing himself with a BiTurbo would be different because he actually knows what he's doing. Telling someone with no automotive experience whatsoever to dive head first into a basket case might be great for our entertainment for us but it's not exactly going to be the best advice for the OP in this case.

But yeah we're debbie downers for being realistic and not INSANITY

No, one of the fans was mechanically seized up so that it was not spinning fast enough, so I took the entire laptop apart to remove the fan, sprayed a poo poo ton of WD40 in the fan bearings, blew the entire interior of the laptop out with canned air, and then blew out the leftover residue from the fan bearings and reinstalled it.

Doesn't he have a garage? Throw a cheap wood stove in there, that's what I did when I lived in NY.

In FL during the summer good luck cooling a garage cheaply tho. It's easier/cheaper to heat a garage than to cool it.

Fact of the matter is, the OP at this point in his life living with his mom and working at a car rental place has no business driving around a rolling project, never mind the fact he has no clue what he's doing.

Lots of us are capable of handling a rolling project, but if I were in that situation it's the last thing I'd want to deal with.
