You need to go over the car thoroughly and learn a little bit more. I would recommend carefully examining every single part on and in the car, and every time you see a part that you don't recognize and also understand basic operation and repair of, go read up on it. This doesn't cost anything and you'll very rapidly begin to understand how the car works inside and out.

I had a Mazda that would eat belts and ended up discovering it was the harmonic balancer after it ripped itself apart on the third belt.

I still use the first socket set I ever bought, a Pepboys branded Goodyear kit. It even still has some of the original parts (case and SAE sockets mostly). Take good care of it and it will take care of you. Kobalt is actually pretty decent as far as low-end tools go.
