Media Play was the greatest; I always preferred it to places like CompUSA and Best Buy and Circuit City. The one where I lived in metro Detroit had a little cafe, too, where you could get hot dogs and popcorn and beverages, too. And they had a massive periodicals section and their console and PC areas had demo units galore. My brother and I would beg to go there if our mom was doing shopping down the street at the Southland Mall. To this very day, I get ultra hype about the Black Friday fliers that come in the mail/newspaper. I grab all of them and sit down and go through anything to see if there's anything worth getting. But those 80's and 90's catalogs and inserts were on another level altogether. Especially the Kay*Bee Toys, Babbages, Software Etc, Funcoland, Toys R Us, Media Play, Circuit City, CompUSA and Sharper Image ones. EDIT: There was also a toy joint called Children's Palace that existed until the early 90's and that place was fuckin' bonkers. Their electronics section alone posed a serious challenge to the Toys R Us electionics section. And I remember them having practiclaly endless amounts of Starting Lineup sports figurines, too.
