In case anyone's been living under a rock, these badass snatch-destroyers are the grandfathers of FPS gaming - John Carmack and John Romero (r-l). Romero was eventually doomed (hehe) to create the hideous Daikatana, and dwindle into irrelevance, whilst Carmack continues to push the envelope of game engine tech and builds rocket ships in his spare time.
