Not a picture, but a story that still makes me pretty drat happy despite it happening a couple weeks ago.

On November 15, I was in a really bad car accident. My femur on my right side broke through the back of the hip joint, breaking the pelvis and the hip itself in an "s" shape. I had two procedures. The first one was done in the trauma bay, which was to pull my right leg out of my hip and keep it in place until I could have a proper surgery a few days later. The second was to get the skeletal traction out and to put two rows of plates and screws in my hip and pelvis area. I've been out of work since the accident, since I physically cannot walk, let alone do my job.

I had some personal time saved up, but not enough to cover the entire 6 months I'll be out of work, and even then, it's still too soon to tell if I'm able to do my job once I get back. I've already used up all of my sick time and FMLA after I injured my left knee over the summer. I have the paperwork to apply for long term disability, since that seems to be my only hope at this point.

About a week after I was discharged from the hospital, I get a letter in the mail from work. My coworkers donated almost two weeks of their paid personal time to me. Like... they gave up their vacation time, just so I could use it. The donations are confidential, so I have no idea who to thank. I know it's not much in the long run, but It still makes me tear up from their generosity.

This is really great and reminded me of one at my job - earlier over the summer, we got news that one of our project engineers had cancer. He was going to be out a while for treatment but didn't have much PTO left, and knew he'd have to be out of work a specific length of time to get short term disability. Our bosses passed us the news and a bunch of us pooled our PTO time so he could take his time off paid without worrying about bills or stuff like that during treatment. It was really great to see everyone get together like that, regardless of how well they knew the guy who needed help :3:

As someone who's suffered through more than one car accident, this is GREAT news

for those that are keeping up, this is 60 days out from the day of the accident. Medicine and science are loving awesome.

As a kid my grandpa found a baby gray & we raised it in an old bird cage. We eventually let it go but it stayed in the trees by the house & would come down to the porch for us to feed him. Squirrels & chipmunks were the best, we loved feeding them sunflower seeds & nuts

Echoing this - my dad had kidney surgery last week and just got home this past Monday from the hospital. A small gesture like this (depending on how close you are) can go a long way in easing some of the burden while they recover. If you're not sure how to approach, politely ask if you can help with anything or let them know they can call if they need something, a simple approach and it lets them know you're willing to help without being intrusive or getting too personal.

Just an hour ago my boyfriend and I walked out of Starbucks when I found this little guy on the sidewalk. Must have flew into the window, so I picked him up and put him in my hat. Sat with him for about a half hour while he regained composure and he flew off shortly after I took this picture. I think it's a winter wren, soo tiny

When I was little, my late grandparents had a place with a gigantic picture window, and they had a habit of keeping it (and everything else) almost OCD levels of spotless. Without fail, at least a couple times a week, a robin or a sparrow would smack into the window and we'd find them outside on the ground with a look of :wtf:

on their face before flying off a couple minutes later. Thankfully none ever got hurt bad or died, it was kinda like watching someone accidentally get hurt where you feel really bad but can't help but laugh your rear end off.

This and the fact that several ancestors of dinosaurs still exist is amazing to me. Think about alligators and crocodiles - outside of their size, they really haven't changed much in the last few million years. Add that scientists are still finding new species of animals all over, and even some long-thought extinct species are still around (see the Coelacanth), and it's pretty drat awesome to realize that we're still learning and exploring our own planet and haven't yet found everything that we possibly could.

Also, fatbird dinosaurs are the best concept ever :3:

I had a few old episodes I recorded on VHS a long time ago, and would search around various video sites to find Bob's stuff when it got more scarce on TV. Whenever I have trouble sleeping, Bob's the go-to guy that sends me off to dream land :3:

drat, you ain't kidding - I still remember watching old cartoons with my dad and grandparents from the old days and Calloway is so drat infectious with his energy. You can tell the dude just loves what he's doing and puts everything he has into all his performances

Echoing that I wish concerts like this happened more nowadays, it's really a lost art form and makes me sad when I see old, dilapidated theaters where shows like that used to happen.

I rescued a baby crow today. I didn't have the foresight to take pictures but it looked almost fully grown with white tufts on its wings. I found it hopping about in the path by my house, so I led it into the back garden and called the RSPCA to rescue it. The lady that came said that they would have to hand rear it, and that the parents would likely be looking for it. I can hear them cawing outside, which is a bit of a bummer, but hey at least the baby will survive. So yes I'm requesting crow stuff, please.

My family had a Rottweiler named Bertha that we got from a neighbor in the UK, he was getting ready to have his first kid and Bertha was about 3 years old at the time and clumsy as hell. Sweetest dog in the world though, massive at 160 pounds when we got her and really didn't know her own size or power.

That dog had the worst goddamn farts I've ever smelled. We usually let her sleep in the kitchen and it was always hilarious to see her on her back, legs up in the air, half-asleep...then hear the muffled machine gun fart slip out. If it wasn't that, it sounded like a semi pulled up and let off the air brakes, a low, long *psssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh* followed by the worst smell known to humankind. Usually she'd just wake up, look around, sniff the air and go right back to sleep. I miss that dog so much :smith:
