Sel Nar posted:Alcohol stuff A still is the piece of equipment used to boil off alcohol from a liquid, then capture and condense the vapour. This concentrates the alcohol. There's only so much alcohol percentage you can get from just fermentation because the yeast eventually dies (alcohol kills yeast), so if you want to make spirits you have to distil. And it's illegal to home-distil pretty much everywhere (hence moonshine)

Does anyone else find it odd to use "person" as a synonym for "human" rather than for "individual"? Butterscotch is a person too! Just a short furry alien one that can't speak human languages.

Instead of making the walls higher, make them go all the way over. As in: get a covered litter box. No jumping over walls required. Kitty goes in the entrance in the front, turns around to stick their face out into the light, dumps, scratches litter everywhere and most of that litter hits the walls and falls back in the tray. I think they usually come with flaps on the front, to keep the litter from getting kicked out the entrance, but when I put the tray down with the flap on the cats didn't know what to do and pissed on my clothes instead. I just take the flap off. Still some stray litter pellets, but not a great deal.

It wasn't NASA posting them officially, it's just a private individual working with NASA historians and various others, posting high-res shots that were already in the public domain. It also isn't from "the" mission - there were six lunar landings in total, and the shots are from all of them, not just Apollo 11 (the first landing). e: actually, it's from the whole project. Elephant Nature Park is amazing. It's a retirement home for old, abused elephants, where they look after them and give them everything they could want to enjoy their lives. Some day I'm going to go back there and volunteer with them. I found some shots of my trip there, but none especially cute. So have a pic of my old kitty, Amber, who died a few years ago at around 18 years of age.

I'm thoroughly a cat person. Those dog videos make me wish I understood dogs. They seem like great people, but I don't know as much about how they communicate, what they need, and how they behave as I do cats.

porkswordonboard posted:I have no idea at all if this correlates to you, but I know a few people who think about dogs the way they think about kids. Having them seems so consuming and stressful, I mean--the training! The walks and treats and food and they can destroy your house! You can't leave them alone too long, and they don't live as long as cats can. The effort it takes to care for a dog is so much different then cats. But when you get down to it, what many dogs want is just to make you happy. They want, essentially, to please. Cats aren't necessarily as concerned with this, and most don't require such attention. Which makes them great, because they're independent, they're subtler. I meant more that I understand cats pretty well, just from experience and reading up, so I know how to read their body language and so react to their mood. How to approach politely, when to back off, that sort of thing. I have almost no clue about dog body language. I find myself looking for cat cues and having to remind myself that it's a different animal altogether. It's like people who don't know how to talk to kids, and are like "ok, it's a kid. I have no idea what to do with you". I'd like to be able to "speak dog" better, I guess.
