People being terrified of cephalopods will never cease to amuse me, because to me most of them look adorable. The blanket octopus is really pretty. Related to the topic, I've always found this close up of a maggot to be somewhere between cute and creepy.

My brain was going crazy with deja vu on this one, then I realised an illustrated version of it is used in Darwin's The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals, to show "horror and agony". A little wikipedia walk later, and I found a bunch more. They're apparently from early French neurology/electroshock experiments by a man called Guillaume Duchenne. These particular ones are labelled "facial electrostimulus".

Does anyone have that one black and red japanese painting of a woman with a very long neck? I remember it looked like a schizophrenic had painted it but I can't really pull up anything on google. edit: probably shouldn't have rechecked the thread 30 minutes before going off to bed but thanks for finding it
