The sixties / seventies were a very different time. Keep in mind a big factor, especially in popular culture, was breaking beyond the censorship and puritan principles of the fifties. Freedom of speech and expression were valued, even more so when the previous generation would label that speech / expression profane or taboo. A year or two back I had sleep paralysis so often that I went from being scared to being annoyed. I never hallucinated the woman/demon/whatever holding me down/standing over me that many people apparently do, though.

I remember that Zack Parsons reviewed a Noboru Iguchi film for the Horrors of Pornography series, and I'd put Shintaro Kago in the same vein. Both of them specialize in erotic horror-comedies, and a lot of their works are in incredibly poor taste. Kago's done some alternative history manga like Dance! Kremlin Palace and Choudouryoku Mouko Daishuurai (The Ultra Power Mongol Invasion), which are funny as poo poo, but messed up.

Yes I know what's in his actual books because I wanted some other ghoulish whimsy like junji ito and was recommended kago without a content warning so reading a few that were merely gross before getting to other ones and seeing their summaries before reading and suddenly realizing "hey... these rest of his works all about forcing people to eat poop "

This one always felt really... cruel to me. It's too edgy and too direct and too loving mean for me to feel spooked by it; it manages to be distressing without being creepy, like watching someone pull each individual leg off of a spider over the course of four minutes except they're in a one-man-band while they do it.
