Im going to put my foot down on this: labor protections are almost always a positive thing for a society as a whole despite the economic costs (which I guarantee are minimal). Education of your populace is the most important thing you can do and the more you remove profit motives from it the better.

Black Baby Goku posted:Funny how everyone who hates him were the rich bourgeois who fled to keep their wealth LOL. My family were poor college students and carpenters who fought for Castro and were imprisoned and escaped because they wanted a democratic state like Castro promised initially. Tell me more about the bougies who left because of their precious money.

Black Baby Goku posted:Just a big laugh at leftists who think they will ever achieve revolution without blood. Non Serviam posted:What's stopping you then, champ? I am the rare leftist-leaning Cuban American and I don't think I'm an imbecile, but the way Castro implemented socialism gives me pause that it really could ever work via a centrally-planned economy. I don't think the ends justify the means if the means is absolute repression and control (which almost always leads to nepotism and cronyism).

Friendly Humour posted:No, but there are plenty of Cubans around here to give their views on Castro's Cuba. I have a sneaking suspicion that anyone with first hand or even second hand information from Cuban conditions would be seen as invalid by certain people since they obviously felt the need to leave ASAP so they obviously won't have an unbiased view of life there.

I disagree with Non-Serviam on Allende, but seriously Plutonis, most people don't like bloodshed and will take great pains to avoid it because it really just leads to more and more and it never ends. One good idea can be tainted red for generations by an impatient or selfish person.
