Of course if you don't care about the Flickr T&Cs, the intent of the photographer or having the optimum resolution, you can just load up the flickr page and grab the URL of the image using the developer tools in your browser of choice...

A metal tripod will act like a set of large antenna gathering electromagnetic noise. This will cause your photographs to have reduced contrast and a washed out look. A wooden tripod results in your photographs having much better clarity. To be fair, many wildlife photography competitions have rules around baiting or captive animals that are largely reliant on good faith by entrants. For every story like this, countless probably go undetected.
