I think Under Siege is still a fun movie, as long as you turn your brain off. Gary Busey is a surprisingly effective antagonist.

As far as Seagal himself, he's probably insane and is definitely a terrible person.

To liven the mood, he also doesn't know how to run.

I liked that the Tom Jane Punisher just had him utterly destroy John Travolta at the end. So often in these films, the bad guy is a rich weakling who sends his thugs and his big heavy after the hero, but you have to have a final confrontation anyway, during which the weakling boss inexplicably has the fighting ability to go toe to toe with the hero for a few minutes. I'm thinking of Darkman and John Wick among others (I like those films a lot).

Punisher doesn't bother giving Travolta even a moment of standing toe to toe with Frank Castle. He gets out drawn, shot in the gut, spins around in a hilarious Travolta fashion, gets mocked by the Punisher for killing his wife and friend, then tied to an exploding car while he whimpers and cries engulfed in CGI fire. I find it awesomely hilarious.

I really dug Travolta in that movie, I thought he was a definite highlight. The movie somehow feels padded out, but in all the wrong areas. Give me more gunfights and kicking rear end, and much less footage of the neighbors. Get rid of them entirely. There's also weird scenes where I expected the camera to cut away, and it just..doesn't. It dwells and the whole thing feels really off-putting and poorly edited.

It's so loving weird, but not a redeemable type of weird. Someone said on the Facebook group that Michael Shannon was doing whatever the opposite of chewing the scenery is, and they're not wrong. He's sleepwalking through this movie.

Never saw it or remember much about it.

I'm really interested to see what the boys have to say about it, it sounds like their opinions have soured on it since its release. I think the first twenty minutes on Krypton are genuinely alright. Snyder does big CGI spectacle, and that's all that segment is, so it works without coming off as compromised and cartoony. Unfortunately, the rest of the movie is a real mess. Amy Adams could be entirely excised from the movie, but part of that is because she has an embarrassingly bad script. The editing takes a nosedive in the last 45 minutes too. I noticed certain establishing shots were completely missing, and that's even before the horribly disorienting final fight.

Michael Shannon is hilariously evil, though, and I dig that.

Are the commentaries worth anything without syncing them? Has anyone tried that?

A lot of the commentaries are based around what's happening on screen. In Rambo, they're remarking on the violence, in Sucker Punch, Andrew is losing it at how bad the movie is, and in Revenge of the Sith, Eric is constantly making note of how many CGI'd lamps are present. I imagine the Star Wars track would be easiest without the visuals, but seriously, there's so many lamps.

6/15 - The Comedy Zone - Charlotte, NC - Under Siege
6/16 - The Orange Peel - Asheville, NC - Junior

If not for the opening 15 minutes and the ending 25, Temple of Doom would have permanently left Spielberg in movie jail. It's terrible. It's mean-spirited, weird and racist. Kate Capshaw gives a bad performance but it all stems from a bad, uncomfortable script that doesn't really know what to do with anyone.

Crystal Skull is, for the most part, properly hitting the beats of 1950s pulp adventure sci-fi (nuclear bombs are easily survivable, communist foes, etc.) The problem is I don't think people really wanted that out of Indy (and also Shia LeBoeuf cosplaying as Marlon Brando :laffo: )

This is pretty much my take. I find it to be a fun, silly movie that would be perfect after a tall glass of water. It's really no more goofy than any of the other Indy movies, there's just a lot of bad CGI and Shia is giving a really odd performance. We find out aliens exist, but we also saw the Holy Grail in Last Crusade and the Actual Wrath of God at the end of Raiders. I liked it more than Temple, but I get why people wouldn't.

Diamonds Are Forever (Connery is checked out of the role more than any other actor has ever been)
Live and Let Die (Bond does blaxploitation, it's got some good chases but it's real weird)
Moonraker (The big bad chews scenery with the best of them and Bond goes to space)
Casino Royale (for WLM)
Quantum of Solace (I kind of think this is a WLM too, but other people really loving hate it)
