your dog isn't really a dog either.

that thing has a brain the size of your thumb. it can't hunt or fetch or do anything except stand there and shiver, it's like a less useful hamster that eats more expensive food. so congrats on your broken pet i guess

were you just straightforward about your salary expectations then

because it's not a faux pas to be explicit about cost of living differences between rural arkansas and wherever in colorado you ended up

Yep I said "I make X, I am expecting at least parity after adjusting for cost of living differences between Arkansas and Denver" and ended up with a 20% cash raise while I went from spending $850 on housing and $300 a month in gas to $500 on housing and $80 a month on a bus pass

Blodget peppered Bezos with questions about why Amazon is “famously frugal” and doesn’t match the type of employee perks that other high-profile tech companies offer — there are no free lunches at Amazon cafeterias, for example, and the cash components of employee salaries are often well below those of top competitors.

Bezos argued that Amazon has its own “very significant benefits.” One is Amazon’s location in the city of Seattle, instead of a suburban campus. That allows 20 percent of employees to walk to work.

Then there are the food trucks. “We have an unbelievable food truck scene around our headquarters,” he said. “It’s out of control, actually.” Amazon also allows employees to bring their dogs to work. But the real showstopper may be office windows that open, Bezos said. You read that right.

“People, it turns out, really like fresh air,” he said. Take that, Google!

food trucks are alright and all but dang they are expensive, saying you got a lot of food trucks around justifies lower pay is pretty hosed up.

i mean that whole quote is but the food truck thing is just weird.

lol, friend of mine bought a corner house in the burbs that has like some rocks in the corner as sort of like a lawn feature thing, and all the neighborhood kids apparently sit on the rocks all day after walking to the 7-11 and are all noisy. 27 year old yelling at kids to get off his lawn, p funny. they also leave cigarette butts and stuff.

for sure it's just funny because it implies a ball pit salary that is supplemented by the availability of slides and maybe an xmas bonus fireman's pole if production goals are met
