Where does it hurt?
If you happen to have a form that you can run on a computer of the PSP version there's also a patch that fixes the slowdown because it turns out all spell animations are forced to 15fps or 7fps or something stupid like that.

Some of the art assets in FFIX were done by American VFX teams, as part of SE's big international push at the time (the same push that produced Spirits Within). A lot of the more memorable prerendered areas -- the Black Mage village, the area surrounding the giant tree, Memoria -- are in the portfolios of dudes who work in Hollywood now, which is cool

That game and Chrono Cross had some incredible prerendered backgrounds. All you would need for an "updated" port of those games would be BGs at a proper resolution, but Square's devs are careless morons who didn't save the original renders

FFIX was also made (at least partially) in Hawaii, I believe. Hence the Hawaiian Gear.

As a kid playing VII it wasn't my favorite but now that I'm almost through playing it again I've got a new appreciation for it. I could live with the graphics, a new translation is what that game is most in need of. Then again we'd miss gems like the man who are sick.

I just started disc 3, did I miss the whole Zack explanation cutscene somehow or has that not happened yet?

You can see it at any time starting from disk 3 I think.

e: Actually, I think it's from when you get Cloud back.

Go back to the Nibel Mansion library, past where Vincent was.
