You have to remember the types of people that go to the Drafthouse are generally the types that also want a pleasant viewing experience. And you get to do things like see Magnificent Seven on the big screen. This is outstanding. There's a new Alamo Drafthouse being built in Omaha and until now I just assumed it would be another movie/grill/bar experience like a lot of the other theaters in town have done. If they really do enforce the no talking/texting that might actually get me to go there (more than the food and beer, since that's not a novelty anymore). It surprises me, though, that they're building where they are... it's in the suburbs and I'd think most of the moviegoers there would be teens and families.

VR gaming will be (is?) neat, but watching a film in oculus would be like watching a play while sitting on the stage, amidst the actors and in the set. And if it isn't, why wouldn't you just watch it on a screen? Honestly, some kind of TV that can produce a real 3D effect (wherein the layers have some amount of physical depth, enough to trick the eye but not requiring any kind of special glasses) would be way cooler, and far more preferable to watch. EDIT: Dead people with an oculus on their head, fleshlight on their dick, and an exploded heart in their chest is going to be the way many goons pass from this mortal coil, I'd imagine

It's only fair. 30 bucks for a non-matinee including the pint of rum I bring in for my coke. This is in Chicago. Plus, with the AMC stubs card and how often I go to the movies (along with friends using my stubs number to buy their online tickets and not pay a fee) my tickets to every second or third film are basically free.

It's so frustrating going back to Vegas from Omaha because the theater options here are poo poo and the limited release stuff might get a pity screen for a week in one of the casinos if I'm lucky. I miss Filmstreams enough as it is and now they get a Drafthouse.

Why isn't the Drafthouse building a theater in actually inhabited New York City? Its crazy that I have to travel a good distance to get anything approaching a good cinema experience.

They'll enforce it if you raise an order card to let the server know since they're not just hanging out in the theater. Only time I got to see it in action was during a Back to the Future marathon, a couple groups got warned during an intermission and reminded that was their one warning, next time was ejection. Intermission? Like the pause between two movies where there isn't anything to watch? That's like the time a guy yelled at me for pulling my phone out after the screen cut to black and the credits started to roll during Ghost Busters.

You first put up a card on your table saying that a specific person is talking if he isn't caught. I one time got this dude kicked out because he kept talking throughout some random movie I went to go see and was also constantly on his phone. Its legit. I must just have good luck. The only time in years where an audience member was consistently loud was at an 11 AM John Wick matinee where some dude in the front was just tipping back 40s and occasionally shouting at the screen. But I was bored by the movie so I actually kinda appreciated that.

The irony of the Drafthouse is that for all their pride in getting people to be quiet for the movie, there will always be the intermittent scuttling around of servers in front of you to see if anyone's made new drink orders, and the occasional whispering to ask a question about said order, which always takes me out of the movie.

You're supposed to give them something ideal of Western life for them to work toward fixing their country, or at least defect, not something repulsive that they retreat back to their farm and factory life.
